Mark, not 100% sure of my travel plans yet but I may be coming past Warwick
Reply : Mon 27th Feb 2012 21:06
Chris,
Try sending a PM to Alan Gunningle (above). He wants to play and is hoping to find someone to share his travel costs from the Lancashire area. Could work out well for you both
Reply : Mon 27th Feb 2012 21:17
Darren,I have contacted a confirmed member of the event who I think lives locally. If he can't help me out with a lift I will drop you message nearer the time to see if your travel plans will work out. Thanks,Mark

Now only four places left with two of those having people 'interested'. Get your name down quick if you want to play
Reply : Wed 29th Feb 2012 10:35
If the event were being held at the weekend I'd be in like a shot Chris, then I could give you a lift Mark as I live in Leamington
Reply : Wed 29th Feb 2012 22:43
Sorry Paul, no societies at weekends hence the Monday game

Now just 1 place left, with 3 players 'interested'. Looks like it will be a full house. For those who haven't paid up yet make sure you do by the end of the week please. If you don't your place isn't guaranteed
Reply : Wed 7th Mar 2012 23:21
The comp is now full and numbers have been confirmed with the club. Unfortunately there are still payments outstanding. 26 out of 30 players have either paid or contacted me about it, which means 4 players have still not made the arrangements. Payment was due by 4th March so any payments not made are now overdue
The cost for the competition is £40.00 and payment is to be made by BACS transfer to me
Please ensure that you either pay or contact me about payment by the no later than Saturday 10th March. If I have not heard from you or received payment by this point YOU WILL BE PLACED ON THE WAITING LIST AND YOUR PLACE OFFERED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS TO ALL PLAYERS.
You have been warned. I will accept no responsibility if you lose your place because you failed to pay on time
Reply : Fri 9th Mar 2012 11:57
Please note info above if you are yet to confirm via deposit.
Thanks.

Three people have been moved to the waiting list because they haven't paid or contacted me about payment yet. If you know them please tell them that their place is now on a first come first served basis to anyone who wants it (including them).
If you want to play in the comp and thought you'd missed your chance you now have one. Put your name down if you want to play and the first three payments I receive will get the places
Reply : Tue 13th Mar 2012 09:55
One of those three places has gone. Now only two places that can be taken
Reply : Wed 14th Mar 2012 23:09
Only one place left available. David Marshall will be joining us. First come first served based on who pays first
Reply : Wed 14th Mar 2012 23:11
2 places left, if he's coming I'm pulling out
obviously quite clearly kidding
Reply : Wed 14th Mar 2012 23:21
He can't pull out, he's bringing the prizes
Although he could send them with Phil or Tim
Reply : Wed 14th Mar 2012 23:44
Hahahahahahahaha
Reply : Thu 15th Mar 2012 00:30
He may well be able to give them to Tim, but well also be bringing them back with us.
when will we have some tee times & groups Chris mate ?
Reply : Thu 15th Mar 2012 21:29
All slots are now taken. A certain Mr J Pettitt has taken the last slot and will be sharing a buggy with Mr D Marshall. I will see who has annoyed me most and put them with that pair....
I'll be doing groupings and times this weekend. If anyone has any specific requests let me know

Good point Mark. I'd be more worried if it was on Sunday but hopefully everyone will know by Monday. Looking at some of the players on the list though I'm not so sure.....

Good evening all
Just a quick update and a little information about the club for you as I have had further information verified.
- Players will play in 3 ball groups from the white tees for men and red tees for ladies
- Scoring will be stableford off full handicap
- 08:45 – Tea/coffee and bacon rolls available
- 09:36 – First group tee off on Cherington course
- 13:15 – Soup and sandwiches available on rolling basis as groups finish
- 14:06 – First group tee off on Avening course
- 19:00 – Winners announced and prize giving (possibly a little earlier if everyone is ready)
The club reserves the right to swap the courses around, but we will definitely be playing both. Players will stay in the same 3 ball groups for both rounds to ensure everyone gets the chance to have a break and some lunch. So far I have had one request for a buggy to be shard between two players. This has been booked
There is an area of the bar I am planning on using that is just off the main room. There is seating for everyone and it has a view of the first tees and looks straight down the 18th of Avening. The seniors roll-up is playing at the same time as our morning round on the other course and they will be in the clubhouse at the time we will be having lunch. This will also ensure they do not feel we are invading.
Club facilities
- Pro shop – first door in the main building. Drinks, choccy bars, stroke savers and pin sheets are available in here. It is also the place to pay for and collect buggies and trollies
- Bar/restaurant – second door in the main building (roughly in the middle) and up the stairs. Please note that there is no spike bar and golf shoes are not permitted in the clubhouse. Key clubhouse rules are no jeans, trainers, golf shoes or wet rain gear. Mobiles may be taken in if kept on silent but may not be used for voice calls
- Changing rooms – third door in the main building (signed 'Golfers Entrance' ). Lockers are available but need a £1 coin (returned) to operate. Showers are available and towels are provided free. Golf shoes may be worn in this area
- Driving range – at the side of the car park. Tokens are available from the pro shop
- Short game practice area – behind the club house (walk between the clubhouse and range). Has a chipping area and bunkers next to a green. Range balls or your own balls may be used
- Practice green – in front of the clubhouse
The club does not normally allow societies on a Monday and it is very unusual for them to allow us to play both courses in one day. This is only being allowed because I’m a member and I asked very nicely. Please behave in an appropriate manner and hopefully we will be able to get a repeat of this event

I'm already envying group 1 as they will probably have around an hour and a half for dinner. The rest of us playing behind the two slugs 1 in group 2 and the other in group 3, we will be drinking our soup going down the 19th! http://www.golfshake.com/scripts/ckeditor362/plugins/smiley/images/devil_smile.gif" title="devil" width="20" /> I'm going to bring some salt and it's not for the soup!http://www.golfshake.com/scripts/ckeditor362/plugins/smiley/images/tounge_smile.gif" title="cheeky" width="20" />

I've sent out the directions via PM. If anyone wants them sending via e-mail or other means drop me a PM with the details and I'll send them through
Reply : Tue 20th Mar 2012 22:48
Dave, it's a good job the 2nd 18 is on a different course or the 1st group could lap us!
Reply : Wed 21st Mar 2012 04:56
Oh no, all those single figure handicappers ahead of me that take so long to hit a shot or put out. ha ha
Reply : Fri 23rd Mar 2012 20:50
Just a quick note to confirm a few final details
I’ve sent out directions, please let me know if you need them again or need them from a specific place. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE NEW COURSE!!! For sat nav users, the post code is GL6 9BE. It won’t take you the same way as the directions; it’s up to you which you follow
I will be at the club from around 08:30 (earlier if I can get up!). We will meet up in the bar (no golf shoes, trainers or jeans) and this is where you will also have lunch. I have arranged for us to have an area to ourselves to meet before we play and afterwards for the presentations which overlooks the first tees and down the 18th of the afternoon course
Driving range (tokens from pro shop), putting green and short game area will be open from around 08:00. You can get a strokesaver for both courses (£5 to get both); pin position cards (30p for both courses) are recommended
Tea/coffee and bacon rolls available from 08:45
Groups are available on the event page under the ‘Scores’ tab, click on this link -> http://www.golfshake.com/golf/view/6311/scores/
Morning course will be Cherington
- First group tee off at 09:36
- Nearest the pin – 6th
- Nearest the pin in two – 14th
Lunch of soup and sandwiches available in bar after first round
Afternoon course will be Avening
- First group tee off at 14:06
- Nearest the pin – 7th
- Longest drive – 16th
When everyone has finished playing (around 19:00) prizes will be presented in the bar. I’ve seen the list of prizes and they’re some of the best I’ve seen at a Golfshake event so good luck.
Hope you all enjoy the day and courses and that the weather is as good as it has been the last few days. If anyone needs anything send me a PM or tweet me on @C_S_Perry.

Also many thanks to Tim and Alan for the very enjoyable rounds and to Adam for his company in the morning.

praise for the organizers can't be to high, a big thank you from me and also to Tim, Andy and Adam for their fantastic company, that's the first time i've ever played 36 holes like that and it showed, the course was fantastic and well worth the trip down

Huge thanks to Chris for organising this fantastic event.
David and John thank you for all the encouragement you gave me over the 36 holes. Although we didn't play all that well, it was still great fun. If I get paired with you two again I'll be getting a buggy for myself http://www.golfshake.com/scripts/ckeditor362/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.gif" title="wink" width="20" />
Kevin thanks again for the lift.
Looking forward to the next event in May.

Watching you play, Mark was the highlight of the day for me. Your potential is enormous. No one in the world would hit two better shots than the ones you played on the first hole. Magnificent.

Alan that was some score on the morning round, well done!
Reply : Tue 27th Mar 2012 20:05
Yep, cracking day Chris, many thanks. Shame I messed up the morning so much or I could have been better placed although obviously nowhere near good enough to have won it. Wasn't as tough as I thought it would be off the whites and am pretty pleased with 8 pars in the afternoon. Seemed to have bucked the trend and scored better in the afternoon despite starting to really feel it on the 16th, and even better, have felt good enough to go and have a few balls on the range to loosen up...
Reply : Tue 27th Mar 2012 20:15
cheer's David, that's the lowest round i've ever had and 5 shots better than my best at my home course, i don't know if it was tiredness or just that i couldn't sustain it but i was a different golfer in the afternoon...for the worse
Reply : Tue 27th Mar 2012 23:48
Thanks to everyone for coming down yesterday. The event wouldn't have happened without you guys playing. Apologies for the hollowtined greens in the morning; the price we have paid for all the nice weather is that they hadn't been able to close up.
I'm not surprised there were some good scores in the morning. Cherington has had all of it's rough cut back ready for growing and is very friendly at the moment; I can assure you it's a different course when missing the fairway generally means a lost ball! I feel Avening is the tougher course of the two and the scores reflected it too, with the hot weather and fatigue contributing
I hope you all enjoyed the day and enjoyed the courses I have the pleasure of being able to play whenever time allows. If anyone would like another game around there sometime let me know and with a bit of luck we may also be able to start the season off the same way again next year
Reply : Fri 30th Mar 2012 22:11
Just a little feedback from the club about those who attended the 36 hole comp
From the club staff - They thought you were well mannered, treated the course and facilities with respect and kept a generally good pace of play
From the bar staff - You were all friendly, polite and a pleasure to have in the clubhouse, whether at breakfast, lunch or post round. It was "nice to have a bit of life in [there] on a Monday evening"
I asked if we would be able to do the same thing again next year with the same format ie play on Monday, 36 holes, play both courses, lunch in the middle. I was told we would be welcomed back and if required would be allowed to take some additional tee times. I think that is the best feedback we could ever ask for.
I thank you for treating my club as well as I could have hoped. I'm sure Darren is just as pleased with the positive press you have given to Golfshake
