Porthmadog Golf Club
Morfa Bychan, Porthmadog, Gwynedd, LL49 9UU United Kingdom
The front nine are away from the coast and although the soil is sandy the terrain is more accurately described as heathland. But it is none the worse for that, especially with the presence of water making itself felt on five of the holes. The back nine head for the sea, and some beautiful scenery, and the course is transformed into pure links that have been likened to a miniature Troon.Book a Tee Time

A Fantastic mixture of golf holes with varied parkland front nine and some amazing links holes on the back 9 with undulating fairways and plenty of blind shots that benefit from local knowledge. Whats great about this course are that there are no two holes the same, each has its own challenge. Cant wait to play again!!

We recently played in late March and were lucky to have 23degrees and sunshine. The front 9 holes are conventional parkland (which are meant to be the easier holes and I played horribly), followed by 9 holes of the most amazing natural undulating links holes that I have played....a serious challenge to say the least!!! Excellent fun, and pretty brutal on the scorecard. Definitely recommend, especially the back 9.

Another fabulous golf course, the front 9 are pretty good but its the back nine where this course comes alive. They say these holes are like playing Troon a proper Links course, with humps and bumps and gorse bushes. This back nine would test any level of golfer if the wind gets up, and truly has some of the best holes Ive ever played, we played Nefyn GC the day before and if you could put the back nine of Porthmadog with the 8 holes on the peninsula at Nefyn you would be hard pushed to find a better course in the U.K. If i had to choose between the 2 courses i would give the edge to Nefyn, but there's not a lot in it and the greens are better and more fun at Porthmadog, i would definitely play both courses again i just wished i lived a little nearer.

What can I say about this course, you get the best of both worlds with the front 6 holes Parkland, and the rest Links.
This is a true test of golf all wrapped up in one, great holes and hazards, only the odd fairway bunker but the greens are well protected.
Good sensible use of OOB and water, and on the links side any slice is going to be on the beach or if your really lucky in the 18" rough.
Again wind will be a factor if it's blowing, add to that the biggest sand bank to get over from off the tee on the 14th standing at 30' 80 yards in front of you, easy enough to get over if only your brain wasn't sticking that great big photo of it in your mind as your swinging, you'll have a great day and hard enough for the low handicappers to get the odd slap from the course.
Clubhouse is reknowned in the area and is of 1st class but very reasonably priced.

I think most reviews of this coarse would be the same ,the first 9 holes are somewhat up and down and the same but the back nine is superb a true links coarse in every way which would test any level of golfer.
I could not understand why the coarse was so empty on a sunday morning ,we went of at half eight and had the coarse to ourselves it was great ,we played Nefyn as well and i would rate Nefyn the better coarse although the greens are better at porthmadog.

Played 36 holes here.
First 7 holes are parkland and quite similar - but nice.
Last 11 holes are links - even nicer.
Really enjoyed my day some lovely holes. Would recommend this course.
