What The Club Says

The front nine are away from the coast and although the soil is sandy the terrain is more accurately described as heathland. But it is none the worse for that, especially with the presence of water making itself felt on five of the holes. The back nine head for the sea, and some beautiful scenery, and the course is transformed into pure links that have been likened to a miniature Troon.

Good but could be better

Played here last weekend in an open comp. First time here and was really looking forward to it. Front 9 has a parkland/links feel to it with some great holes especially the island green par 3.
Back 9 is pure links with some stunning views. Only downside is out if the 7 driving holes 6 are blind and on a couple we all felt the marker post wasn’t positioned well. 17 and 18 have been redesigned and I have to say 17 at present is dreadful. No map on the tee so you have no idea what you’re playing and when you get to 200 yards out you’re literally hitting over rough/mounds/scrub and all Carey to a green you can’t see. 18 is the only drive you can properly see but again it needs a map to show you the new layout even if only a temporary one. Such a shame as the course was really well presented otherwise.

Love Porthmadog GC

Great course with a smashing welcome. Club kindly rescheduled our Saturday round to Sunday as Storm Amy ruined our plans. Greens in great condition, fairways best described as natural looking. First time I’ve played since island green introduced on the front 9. Fond memories. Standout holes have to be 12 and 13.

Worth a visit

1st 9 was OK, fairways in poor condition. Back 9 was a proper links with great views over the sea, challenging to reach the fairways on a couple of holes, average greens. Probably not worth the high green fee. Nice good value clubhouse and pro shop

A Tough course of two halves

A plesant days golf on a very chalenging course especially off the whites. The first 9 is heathland and was very dry and it was difficult to see the fairways as they just ran into the rough. The back 9 was a real links course and a real challenge with quite a few blind shots and not easy in the wind.

Interesting course

A tale of two nines. Front nine is heathland with water coming into play on some holes. Fairways were scorched and very hard with hardly a blade of grass in sight leading to some interesting bounces. The back nine was proper links with severe undulation, very tight lies blind shots, run offs and lots of bunkers.Without a course planner it was often difficult to know what a good line was going to be off the tee but there were some outstanding views and the greens were fast and true.Fortunately the wind was not too strong and so the course did not show how severe it could be.Staff were very welcoming and the Pro shop was well stocked.

Tough day

This was a tough opener for the start of a 4 day golfing trip. The bounce and run of the ball made it challenging and having never played it before made it hard as to what was the best place to aim for. Greens were firm but true so judging distance was hard
