News from Woodlake Park Golf Club
The winner of this year’s Masters tournament at Woodlake Park was Alun Willis, whose consistency over the four medal rounds ensured a well earned victory by two shots. With some of the rounds played in very difficult windy conditions and the course firm after the dry start to the season, Alun, playing off 5, achieved rounds of 67, 72, 77 & 75. Going into the last round he and John Davies who plays off 7, were two shots adrift of the leader Paul Slade (also off a handicap of 7). But the teacher from New Inn easily had the best round of the three, and also managed to beat off a late challenge for the Master’s jacket from Richard Davies whose nett 74 was the second best score of round 4.
In the Master’s Plate section of the competition, for those more than 10 shots off the lead after the first two rounds, there was a close fight for eventual victory. Greg Freeman ’s scores of two 75’s gave him a total of 150 in the last two rounds to beat Gary Howells and Scott Redwood into second place on 152.
