Feature Review: Ifield Golf Club

By: Sarah Ramowski | Mon 04 Apr 2011

Ifield Golf ClubIfield Golf Club is set within the lovely backdrop of the Sussex countryside. Excellent facilities await and don’t be surprised to see the strength of its membership base despite the concerning decline on membership throughout golf clubs within the UK.

The club hasn’t changed as much as into redevelopment over the years, but does a club always need to revamp? I feel not. The humble but gentle feel of the clubhouse creates the perfect impression to visitors with the very accommodating staff and excellent food and catering the club provides.

To be only complimentary of the staff and members would be an understatement. The maintenance and the upkeep of this beautiful parkland course have only improved to the benefit of all golfers alike with the greens playing impeccably and the fairways a smooth as carpet all year round.

This course is very impressive and is reviewed to be one of the best within Sussex, and I can only agree with this summarisation. The variety of holes and the golfing layout make you feel like each hole is a new challenge. There are too many great holes to be descriptive of; however the excellently named “Shingling the Loop” is a huge par 3 and will have every golfer using every inch of their ability to make par or better on here. A long accurate towering tee shot is needed to carry a small pond which is then guarded by numerous bunkers either side of a tight undulating green. The hole possesses the key principle as in to whether you will be successful in your round, as coming into the back nine after shooting over par on this hole always left a negative impact moving on to the 10th Tee.

Overall the course provides a truly exceptional golfing experience that I personally feel I will never grow out of. I don’t think that I will never be able to master the par 3, 9th but neither will others who are of a higher golfing calibre than myself. Definitely one of the best courses within the Sussex region, a must for all golfers.
