Golf in Angus
Known as the cradle of the game of golf, Carnoustie Country stretches around the whole of the ancient county of Angus from the beautiful Glens, through glorious countryside, handsome villages and bustling towns to the coast and the estuary of the Tay.
With over 30 courses within a 40 minute drive, Carnoustie Country ensures all its golfers feel like champions.
Carnoustie Country and the Open
Carnoustie first hosted the Open in 1931, and champions crowned there include Tommy Armour, Henry Cotton, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Tom Watson, before Paul Lawblack and white openrie and Padraig Harrington won the title after play-offs in 1999 and 2007. Indeed, Gary Player and Tom Watson are due to return to the scene of their great triumphs in 2010, when the Senior Open Championship is played at Carnoustie Links. This is the first time, since its inception in 1987, that the Senior Open will be held at the famous Angus links course.
David Hill, Director of Championships for The R&A, said: "For many years we have enjoyed a very strong relationship with Carnoustie, the Open Championship venue in 1999 and 2007. We are thrilled that we will be taking the Senior Open Championship to this excellent venue in 2010."
Whether you are a dedicated low handicapper looking to take on the challenge of the Carnoustie Championship, venue to seven Opens, or a casual golfer looking for a few relaxing rounds, Carnoustie Country's special offers will ensure you have a truly memorable golfing break.
Nestling in the ancient county of Angus, Carnoustie Country provides the perfect backdrop for you to enjoy your golfing break with opportunities around every corner for you to explore our rich heritage and beautiful countryside.
However, it's not only the often breathtaking landscapes of the courses which make the county a golfer's paradise, the golfing history and heritage of the area also attracts golfers from all over the world. Many of the Carnoustie Country courses were designed by the men who are now considered golf's greatest architects, Old Tom Morris, Willie Park Jnr and James Braid. And with both an Open venue and Open qualifiers in the area, every golfer can follow in the footsteps of the champions.
