What the club says: A modern 18-hole golf course par 72, it was created by the well-known American designer Ron Kirby who adapted the original land, with its attractive undulations in keeping with the idyllic landscape of Lanzarote. (Kirby – “I want the course to be fun and enjoyable for all players but never regarded as easy”). The club house offers all services: reception, pro-shop, hiring of all golf equipment (golf clubs, trolleys, electric trolleys, buggies) bar/cafeteria with large terraces and spectacular views over the course and the Atlantic ocean. Our professionals will help you improve your game, and our Golf Academy, driving range, practice course and putting green are at your disposal.

Holiday round

Epic course played in unfortunate high winds but still the course was In great condition. Could not fault this place an enjoyable course to play. Hired a buggy and a full bag of taylormade sim2’s. Will definitely return if I’m in peurto del carmen.

Good golf course. The course had been brought back up to standard after it had deteriorated during lockdown.

I got a voucher for ?37 at a timeshare resort but wouldn't pay the ?65 plus buggy plus club hire as this would raise it to well over ?100 which this course is definitely not worth . Having said that the only alternative in Lanzarote is even worse to play ( Costa Teguise ) but at least they're trying to keep the costs down , you can get a package , fee + buggy + clubs for less than ?90 . I've spoken to a few walk ups who were just desperate to play a round of golf and the concensus is that it's too expensive especially if you need the whole package, for what you get .
It could be so much better but the way this club and others especially in the island is run , the attitude is one of take it or leave it. No serious golfer would want to return to play here and a lot of the less serious would concur

An enjoyable experience if you have info in advance

My mate and I played 3 rounds here in May 2022.
Overall, it's a nice golfing experience but there are things to be aware of.
1. Clubs.
We hired the basic clubs (€15) on day 1. They come with graphite shafts, which didn't suit us. The longest iron is a 5, with a 3 wood and a hybrid club provided along with a driver. (Taylormade M6). Typically I'd been working on my 3 and 4 iron prior to the trip, but I don't hold that against the club! The putter was a very light, basic model.
Days 2 and 3 we hired premium clubs (€25) which we got on with far better as they're steel shafted (except the sand wedge for some reason). This time we also got Spider putters and an approach wedge.
It depends on what you like, but it's good to know what you're getting. Don't be afraid to ask to switch sets or a particular club, as the staff are very accommodating.
The clubs also look pretty rough under the club head, due to the "rough" and you get provided with an extra club (seems to be mostly a 2nd 8 iron) for use from the rocky stuff.
2. The rocky stuff.
So, pretty much anytime you stray from the fairway, you'll find yourself at best in soft grit, or (more often) on harder ground that you'll need to clear small rocks from before your shot. This is where your 2nd 8i comes in, but you'll see from the club heads that many people use all the clubs.
The upside is that it's hard to lose a ball as you can see them easily against the dark dirt. The downside is that there can be some quite spectacular bounces, so you may end up looking in the wrong place! Don't expect a soft coated ball to last beyond a round.
However, stick to the fairways and you won't have any issues.
3. The Fairways.
Being from Scotland, we found that the grass took some getting used to. There was plenty of it and the fairways were in good condition. The grass has a slight astroturf feel to it, so the ball can often be sitting up nicely, but nearer the green it can need some patience as it can grab the bottom of the club.
4. Bunkers.
There are plenty of bunkers but not too many. Have a look at how shallow your footprint is, as some seemed quite hard or perhaps don't have as much sand as you'll be used to. We had to ease up on our usual bunker shots and go for the light flick.
5. Greens.
The greens are a good mix, in terms of size shape and layers.
They definitely take some getting used to and the practice green won't help much. At first I thought they needed cut, as even fairly obvious breaks didn't move the ball. I think though, that the grass is so thick, the grain doesn't behave as you'd expect. I fared much better when I started aiming every putt at the pin and focused on the pace.
They looked pretty good though and the staff have clearly put a lot of work into them.
6. Layout.
I think par 72 is pretty generous. Overall, I played very poorly off the tee, but my short game was very good and I probably averaged 2.5 putts per hole on day 1, and 2 putts on the other 2 days. Over 3 rounds I finished 6 under par without using the driver.
I played to 26 (despite the clubhouse chart telling me I could have 31) because I based it on the same slope rating as UK course. So, -6?
I think the allowance is very generous. I didn't realise I'd birdied a par 5 until the ball dropped and my mate congratulated me. I thought it was a par 4.
A 5 iron off the tee (into the rough) and a 9 iron onto the green. True, the 9i from the rough was a great shot (thank you), but my distances are very average.
There are a few par 3s that are very short as well and I think a couple were only about 75 yards. They might be guarded by bunkers but it's windy, it's pretty easy to punch a low shot between them.
The longest par 5 is about 460 yards, while the longest par 4 is about 380 yards. (Bear in mind your scorecard and course markers are in metres).
So yeah, generous methinks.
The holes are interesting though, with a good mix of dog legs, blind shots (not too many), dips, curves etc. and while the front nine brings several adjacent fairways, it's progressive for the most part. There's enough challenge in working out which part of the fairway or green to play for, so that keeps it interesting.
Take a moment to carefully note where buggies should go and identify the signs for the next tee and it's fairly easy to navigate.
So, I don't think it's a difficult course, but it's not too easy either (apart from achieving a decent score).
Reference has been made to the empty water feature on the back 9. It's a massive pond which was empty.
Yeah, it looks untidy, but I understand Covid made maintenance somewhat tricky and work still needs to be done. The condition of the grass was impressive though and if there have been water issues, that should obviously be the priority.
Notices told us that the layout has changed and at our time of visiting, wouldn't be recognised on electronic devices yet. That was true from or after hole 12, but for the most part, it wasn't difficult to assess distances and there are plenty of markers on the course.
5. Buggies.
On day 1 we hired trollies. It was hot and windy and we're middle aged, and while being relatively fit, we ended up shattered.
We hired a buggy for days 2 and 3 and it made a massive difference. It's about a 7.5 mile walk (and there are some journeys between greens and the next tee) and that doesn't count some of my wild variations from the fairway.
The buggies also came with 2 bottles of water, a bit of fruit and tees, which was nice.
Unless you're just playing 1 round, I'd recommend springing for a buggy.
6. Facilities.
The shop, garage, bathrooms and cafe are all very nice and there are even showers in the bathrooms. Not sure if they're free to all but nobody stopped me sticking my head under one.
The food is really very nice (recommend the Hoyo 19!) and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, from letting us change our clubs and and add a buggy, to calling a taxi for us when we had phone issues.
7. Information.
That's why this summary is so long. The website could do with a bit more info on clubs (what you get) and things like the expectation that you'll use the specific short club provided to get out of the volcanic rock.

Overall, we were about £40 a round per person 8.30 a.m. tee off times) before adding on clubs and a buggy.
Comparatively, you'll play a much nicer course in the UK for that, so it's not cheap. However, there are only 2 courses available in Lanza and maintenance resources must be more expensive, so I felt like the experience was worth it, once we'd sussed out the clubs.
If you get in a filthy mood about not scoring well, then you might want to think twice (for your playing partners' sake) as some elements of the course might feel further out of your control than you're used to rock bounces and green reads), but for some holiday golf in great weather, it's very nice indeed.

Rough around the edges

Greens tees and fairways are fine but the course overall has a slightly shabby look due to neglect during lockdowns. They are working to get it back in shape but it will take a bit of time and a lot of water.

Only two clubs on the Island and don’t know which one is the worse.
The reception is far better than the course, thanks to mellia.
The greens are awful which makes putting a lottery.
For some reason the back 9 is slightly better with a few greens weed free.
The bar and terrace could be updated and looks tired, bar staff were great.
It’s a shame that no one could invest in one of these clubs because the basis is there for improvements and could entice more golfers to the Island if it was completely overhauled, it’s been done on the mainland.
Paying £65 for a green fee, sorry but you have not got the course that warrants the price.
As for Lanzarote it’s such a great Island lovely people a completely relaxing great sea food enjoy your time there

A must play

Lovely laid out course at the bottom of a volcano ! A tough test for me (28), had to keep drives straight otherwise the ball went into lava. To prevent ruining your irons, the Club hand you a battered iron to play out with... or you can place it on nearest grassed area. Greens were in good shape despite having a touch of fungus. Well kept fairways too. Expensive , but a must play if on the Island.

Course had a few challenging holes. Could be better signposts for tees. Some greens were in poor condition - lots of sand. Quite pricey as well but the staff were very friendly & welcoming.
