Cort and Shave Triumph at Lumine with PGAS of Europe Golfbreaks.com Fourball Championship Victory

By: Golf Shake | Fri 06 Feb 2015

Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, one of Europe’s most dynamic golf destinations, was the setting of another thrilling professional performance, as Matthew Cort and Craig Shave claimed the PGAs of Europe Fourball Championship this past weekend. The fourth hosting of the event at Lumine, in partnership with UK tour operator, Golfbreaks.com, starts off a stellar year at the Troon-managed facility which is consistently chosen by Europe’s leading tours for professional and amateurs events alike.

Lumine Golf & Country Club

The British winners finished the three day better-ball format event on 21-under par, two shots clear of the chasing field and the Spanish duo, Rafa Gallardo Moreno and Borja Garcia. Cort and Shave began the final round on 13-under par following some blistering golf during the first two rounds played over Lumine Hills and the Greg Norman-designed Lumine Lakes courses, where the pair recorded an ace on the 4th hole. Cort and Shave dominated on the Alfonso Vidaor Hills course in the finale, with six birdies on the back-nine for a final round total of 64, 8-under par easing their way to the renowned title and the largest prize fund to date - €6,400.

“This year’s event has kick started what I am sure will be a brilliant 2015 golfing season at Lumine Golf Club. We are extremely proud to continue and develop our relationship with the PGAs of Europe who return year after year for our exacting standards across the board, whether in the delivery of our golf course or in the service we provide our guests on a daily basis.” said Calle Carlsson, General Manager, Lumine Golf & Beach Club. “Our congratulations go to Matthew and Craig, they have impressed players and spectators alike with a cool and calculated approach to master the courses here at Lumine.”

Supported by Costa Daurada tourist board, as well as the local tourist offices of Cabrils, Salou, and La Pineda Pinja the event has grown to a firm fixture in both the venue’s and each Professional player’s calendar, as they travel to the Costa Daurada in search of some well needed warmth during the winter.

Following a successful calendar of high-profile professional tournaments during 2014, including European Tour Qualifying School Stage Two and the Challenge de Catalunya last April, underline the venues championship credentials, posing the perfect accompaniment to the amateur events Lumine hosts for its members and guests.

As one of Europe’s most diverse golf destinations, Lumine’s extensive 45-hole offering is completed by its 9-hole Ruins Course, another Greg Norman-design, located amongst historic archeological Roman ruins. It is not just golf that Lumine has to offer, however. The region’s capital, Tarragona, is home to some of the best restaurants in the Costa Daurada. More locally, the award-winning Restaurante Lumine offers exquisite dining options from local legend and head chef Eduardo Cuesta. While Lumine’s Beach Club, located above the Playa Del Llarga bay, is fast becoming one of the most fashionable retreats. Set within the pine-clad hillsides, the Beach Club is also the perfect setting for relaxation and indulgence after a round with its 7km of golden sandy beach.
