WGC HSBC Champions Preview

We are this week assessing the golf betting opportunities in the field for the WGC HSBC Champions, taking place at Sheshan International GC, Shanghai.

Sheshan International is a 7,266 yard par 72 and has returned to hosting the event this year. The winning score here is usually around the -20 mark so expect to see a few birdies this week.

However, although low scoring is important this course is not just about birdies and scoring average. Sheshan is a beautifully sculptured course, and as with most beautifully sculptured courses, that means there are plenty of big bunkers. Therefore, the key skill this week is being comfortable in the sand, both around the greens and in the fairway. You just have to look at the players that have performed well here (Mickelson, Els, Westwood) to see that good bunker players prosper.

Players to watch...

Keegan Bradley (30/1) in 2013 ranked 36th for sand saves and 10th for scoring average

Sergio Garcia (25/1) in 2012 ranked 21st for both sand saves and GIR from fairway bunker + 17th for scoring average

Bill Haas (60/1) in 2013 ranked 15th for GIR from fairway bunker and 18th for scoring average

Billy Horschel (60/1) in 2013 ranked 49th for GIR from fairway bunker and 8th for birdie average

Justin Rose (16/1) in 2013 ranked 20th for both sand saves and GIR from fairway bunker + 3rd for scoring average
