By: | Mon 12 Nov 2012

Las Colinas Golf & Country Club reinforced its status on the international golfing stage after hosting another successful Stage Two of European Tour Qualifying School which saw last year’s winner ,Tim Sluiter, crowned champion once again.  The 72-hole shoot out round the course which is named as one of Continental Europe’s Top 100, saw young hopefuls vying for one of 19 spots in the final stage.

After an impressive final round 66, Sluiter finished a total -16 under par, one shot ahead of fellow Dutchman Daan Huizing.  2009 US Amateur Champion, Byeong-hun An finished in third place four shots back on -11 whilst Scot Wallace Booth also secured a place in final stage finished tied for fifth on -9.

Named amongst Golf World magazine’s Top 100 Courses in Continental Europe in 2011, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club has rapidly developed into a world-class destination since its opening in 2010.  Located just south of Alicante in the region of Valencia, the Cabell B. Robinson design is fair test to golfers of all levels.  The course lies uniquely along a picturesque valley of citrus trees and Mediterranean woodland surrounded by hills and is accessed through a spectacular canyon entrance – a feature which preserves the tranquility and immense natural beauty.

“Once again, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club has been a first-class host for Qualifying School.   The team have made a tremendous job in setting up the course in immaculate condition for what has been a memorable week for the competitors and spectators alike,”

commented European Tour Tournament Director, Mike Stewart.

Englishman Warren Bennett also advanced to final stage with after a consistent display of golf: “It was pretty stress free although it could have been better.  The course was playing well, goof condition, with the chance for a lot of birdies out there with the greens rolling nicely. Over all I am happy to get through.”
