Callaway Apex Utility Wood Review

By: | Fri 17 Nov 2023

Utility Woods are becoming popular tools for recreational golfers, as the clubs offer the benefits of wood performance delivered in a hybrid feel. Utility clubs have been introduced to golf in a bid to make challenging clubs easier to use, which should boost confidence as a consequence.

Callaway is a leading brand in the manufacturing of golfing equipment, and the Apex UW looks set to be another popular product. Golfshake Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall, was sent the new Callaway Apex Utility Wood to review and shares his extensive thoughts below.

Callaway Apex UW

The Apex Utility Wood boasts a unique profile that promotes the launch and distance benefits found in high lofted woods and the versatility of hybrids. The result is a more neutral ball flight and being multi-purpose, better players will feel confident of piercing tight gaps off the tee. Tour players influenced the shaping of the UW, as Callaway work heavily with professional players to ensure they were delivering the best possible product. The compact profile complements shot-shaping and heavily improves control. Furthermore, the club lengths are between a fairway wood and a hybrid, allowing for versatile playability whilst continuing to be easier to execute.

The iconic A.I. designed Batwing structure has been positioned to the perimeter to help stiffen the body, which allows the high-strength C300 maraging steel face cup to flex for unbelievably fast ball speeds. The idea behind the UW was for the club to deliver versatile shot-making capabilities, which is achieved through a new Cutwave Pro Sole that features a streamlined design. This has been introduced specifically to cut through the turf efficiently and provides valuable feedback. By positioning the CG centrally, an outstanding combination of high launch, steeper landing angles, consistent spin characteristics and reduced draw bias has been created. This club is targeted for better players who are looking to own a more playable fairway wood or hybrid.
