The Match II Preview

By: Golfshake Editor | Fri 22 May 2020

Following last weekend's TaylorMade Driving Relief at Seminole, live golf is back on our screens again this Sunday at Medalist Golf Club in Florida, which hosts The Match: Champions for Charity, featuring Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson competing with NFL legends Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, both keen golfers.

Broadcast in the UK - somewhat uniquely - on CNN at 8pm on Sunday, this event will see Woods and Manning pair up to take on Mickelson and Brady over fourballs on the front-nine and a "modified alternate shot" format on the back-nine, with many additional challenges - yet to be revealed - scattered throughout the round that will provide the players with an opportunity to raise even more money for the selected charities, with at least $10m to be made for COVID-19 relief efforts.

Update: CNN available via your TV service or available online here: https://edition.cnn.com/specials/live-cnni-uk

Reported by Yahoo Sports, one of those challenges will see all four participants navigate the par-4 5th hole with just one club, which will test the creativity of both Woods and Mickelson.

Previously, Tiger and Phil faced each other in The Match at Las Vegas in late 2018, an exhibition that was widely criticised for the gratuitous prize fund that the two golf icons competed for, and for being a disappointing spectacle. However, with the charitable element and the introduction of two extra stars, this sequel is destined to be somewhat more engaging.

The TV broadcast will be hosted by Brian Anderson, who will be joined by NBA star Charles Barkley and 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman. Making his debut as a commentator, Justin Thomas will serve as an on-course analyst along with Amanda Balionis.

While these events may not be for everyone, if you fancy seeing four legends of American sport combine in a competitive setting, raising money for vital causes in the process, then make sure you tune into CNN at 8pm on Sunday.
