Get into Golf Month Comes to Shropshire and Herefordshire

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 24 Apr 2018

Looking to drive up participation and introduce the game to more people, a Get into Golf month - including many free events - will be held across Shropshire and Herefordshire later this summer in July.

Local clubs are backing the drive to bring many more people into the sport. Their coaching professionals will be out and about, giving children and adults the chance to try the game.

Mark Romasiuk, England Golf’s Club Support Officer for the two counties, promises plenty of action, with warm-up events starting in May.

Activities will feature golf at festivals, at football clubs, in the parks and involve business people. There will be special equipment for children to have a go and a blow-up net for the adults, and the support and encouragement of PGA professionals.

“We really want to create a buzz about golf,” said Mark. “We want people to be talking about golf and trying the game. Golf is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and to make new friends, so our message is come along and give it a go!”

Golf clubs getting involved with Golf Month include Hawkstone Park, Shrewsbury GC, Aqualate GC, Kington GC, Burghill GC, Ludlow GC, Shropshire Golf Centre and Church Stretton GC.

The announcement of golf month follows the recent relaunch of England Golf’s Get into Golf campaign. It’s been given a bold, modern look with the clear message that there’s a welcome for everyone in golf. Clubs will be highlighting their Get into Golf opportunities during the month. Visit getintogolf.org to find out more

Watch out for golf opportunities at:

Festivals

28 April – Field to Fork Festival at Newport, Telford.

19-20 May – Shropshire Kids Festival at The Quarry, Shrewsbury

23-24 June - Shropshire Food Festival at The Quarry

30 June - Armed Forces Day, Shrewsbury

Football clubs – local children will enjoy golf in the stadium:

2 May - Hereford FC

14 June - TNS Oswestry

Teams of youngsters will tackle five stations, with challenges such as putting across the pitch, playing a shot out of the stands, longest drive and even beat the keeper (with a soft ball!)

Golf in the Park

7 and 21 July – have a go at golf in The Quarry, Shrewsbury. The second date coincides with the Dragon Boat Race.

13 July and 1 August – have a go at golf in Cae Glas Park in Oswestry

Swing for bling!

A corporate way to get into golf! Local businesses will be invited to put up teams of four – one golfer and three beginners, who will take a four-week course of Get into Golf lessons. Then they’ll all get together for a competition at Shropshire Golf Centre on 11 July.

Armed Forces Day

30 June - golf clubs will be at Armed Forces Day at the Sports Village, Shrewsbury to give free lessons to serving personnel, veterans and their families.
