Odyssey O-Works Putter Range Review

Odyssey O-Works

The Odyssey O-Works range offers unmatched roll with their new Microhinge face insert and new and improved Versa Alignment Technology.

The Microhinge Insert Technology provides incredible gains in topspin and roll at impact regardless of your stroke. A stainless steel Microhinge plate is co-moulded into a Thermoplastic Elastomer Feel Layer to provide great feel and get the ball into a better roll at impact.

The revolutionary high contrast alignment technology allows the golfers eyes to key in on the linear designs to highlight the proper face angle from address to impact for alignment throughout your stroke. The red highlight lines also give golfers an additional aid to make sure they’re lined up exactly to the target.

The O-Works range features numerous tour-proven shapes, including the V-Line Fang, #1 and #1 Wide, which we tested on the Forest of Arden putting green.

The V-Line Fang has a fairly square look at address but the versa technology inspires a lot of confidence, giving you a great alignment aid. This putter feels great off the face and is really soft, even when mishit. I found this face had a really consistent roll and was super easy to use, no matter how good or bad the stroke was.

It had a nice balance and was stable throughout the stroke. This was no doubt down to the “fang” design. Finally, the putter had a good grip with a great feel. The reminder in the back helped setting the hands on the grip.

To begin with, the V-Line Fang design is just great; I don’t think there any many better-looking putters than this one. The Versa Alignment Technology made it simple to set up, especially with the new red highlight lines. However, I felt the face was maybe too soft and I felt as if I had to really hit the ball to get it to the hole.

Although the face was a bit too soft, it does give a great, consistent roll. I think this could be down to the weight of the putter as it felt really good and gave me a more confident stroke. I think the putter needed a thicker Super Stroke grip on it as I did not enjoy the sharp, square edges and it almost felt too small.

Not my usual style putter but it looks great at address and I liked the alignment design. The putter felt great off the face and the pure strike provided great confidence. The roll was consistent although tests off the heel and toe not quite as good as other putters but still gave a decent roll. It had a great weight that I could not fault and I loved the pistol grip with the “ribbed” reminder that felt great.

There’s not much to not like about this putter and is a putter I would switch to today.

As with the rest of the O-Works range the no.1 features the 'Versa' technology, which I really like as it helps me to square the blade at address. The matte black finish looks cool as well, but I was not a missive fan of the shape of the head. Very much a personal preference, it was just too long toe to heal for my liking.

The feel was super, super soft! The Micro-hinge technology in the face really creates a very soft feeling when you strike the putt. The ball rolls great off the face. It is hard to know if the technology involved really does work, but I certainly got a great roll on all my putts, even mishits.

The putter was a bit light for my taste. What I mean by this is I prefer the putter to swing a little easier in the hands and the head to feel a bit heavier. It had a lovely grip. It was a Super Stroke pistil that sat nicely in the hands. Quite thin, but I am sure you can have almost any grip in the SuperStroke range. A good move from Odyssey.

This putter was easy to line up thanks to the Versa Alignment Technology, however I did feel like it was possibly not deep enough. Again, the face felt too soft for me and I found on shorter putts I would miss them long – by quite a distance – as I felt I had to hit the ball a lot harder.

The roll was consistent, however the putter head felt a bit too toe heavy meaning it was difficult for me to get a consistent roll. The grip felt slightly too thin and too square and didn’t help the overall weight of the putter. I think if this putter had a better weight, it would suit me more.

The #1 has a similar look to my current Odyssey putter so I liked the classic look. Off the face it was nice and soft thanks to the Microhinge technology, which provided nice feedback but still rolled well. The weight was great and performed brilliantly when I tested. The grip was the same as the V-Line Fang so that was another positive.

This is an excellent putter that I would use as it is similar to my current one. The only problem came on short putts as I had to hit them harder due to the soft face, but I think if I used this putter regularly I could adjust to this.

I love the look of this putter. It is shaped like a blade, but deep giving it a kind of hybrid look. The versa tech really works and allows you to square the face. The black, white and red colour scheme looks pretty smart as well. This putter had a great feel. I love the balance in the putter and it is so, so soft off the face, which maybe not great for super soft greens, but perfect come the summer.

You get a great roll from this putter. Because of the deeper head it is nice and stable through the ball and mishits are not punished to the same degree as the blade. It is hard to know if the micro-hinge the makes a huge difference, but the roll for me was superb. The O-works range comes with a SuperStroke as standard. I was not a huge fan of the size of this grip as it was a larger sized one of the range, but maybe I need to change as I holed pretty much everything I looked at.

This is a lovely putter and, for me, looks a lot better than the #1 as it is wider – as you would expect from the name. The Versa Alignment Technology again made it easy to line up and the red line parallel to the face made that alignment process even easier. The grip and head weight complimented each other and was the perfect weight to offer a consistent, confidence-inspiring stroke. The thicker SuperStroke grip really suited my stroke.

The only downside was the Microhinge Face Insert as once again it was almost too soft off the face. I missed a lot of short putts due to hitting it too hard, although I could not fault anything else about this putter.

This putter looked good at address and was more confidence inspiring than the #1 due to the wide head. Additionally the wide head made the perpendicular alignment aid stand out more, again instilling more confidence. The roll was great and provided consistency with both short and long putts. The face gave a smooth roll when struck out of the middle but even shots out of the toe and heel provided good feedback.

To add, the #1 Wide had a nice weight at address and throughout the stroke. The only downside was the grip. It had a midsize SuperStroke fitted and I would have preferred the Pistol grip with the ribbed reminder. All in all, I absolutely loved this putter and it just edged out the #1. It would be in the bag any day for me.
