Mother and Daughter Team Triumph Again at Royal Mid Surrey

By: Golfshake Editor | Wed 12 Apr 2017

What a team! Royal Cromer Golf Club members Tracey and Amelia Williamson secured their fourth consecutive Mothers and Daughters' victory on Saturday (8th April) with a three-shot triump at south-west London's superb Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club.

Held at the Richmond venue for the last 55-years, the 27-hole medal foursomes event is open to female pairings from across the UK and remains one of the country’s longest-running events for lady golfers, having been first played in 1932.

Sixteen-year-old Amelia, playing off +3 and her mother Tracey playing off 1, shot a flawless level-par round of 71 in the opening 18-holes on the historic Pam Barton Course, named after the legendary golfer and club member who won the title in 1936. A three-over par 38 on the final nine holes was enough for the victory over a field of 40-parings that took part.

At the age of 13, Amelia became the youngest ever winner of the tournament in 2014, when the Williamson pairing entered the competition for the first time. In the four outings since then, they have never been beaten in the historic contest which celebrated its 85th birthday this year. They will have chance to make in five-in-a-row next year, before Amelia heads off to University in America ahead of turning professional.

“I’d like to congratulate Tracey and Amelia on another fantastic victory and a big ‘thank you’ to all the parings that travelled from all over the UK to take part in this historic event for women’s golf,” said event organiser Sheila Stirling.

The event is part of a milestone year for Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club, as it celebrates its 125th anniversary. The club is holding a number of festival celebrations throughout the year, including hosting the Surrey Championships in June, the SSE Women’s Invitational in May and the English Women’s Open Matchplay in July.
