Golfshake Sees Record Growth & Positive Trends For Golf

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 11 Jun 2020

This extraordinary period in world history has impacted all industries, golf included, but Golfshake is delighted to report evidence that the game has emerged strongly since play resumed in the UK.

During lockdown, passionate golfers were still keen to remain engaged and consume content, something that saw Golfshake attain record breaking months for traffic throughout the months of April and May, up 34% and 75% year-on-year respectively from a predominantly British audience, 85% of traffic coming from within the United Kingdom.

The ultimate test was going to be when courses reopened, how quickly would golfers return to normality, and were habits going to remain the same in light of wider circumtances, but Golfshake is thrilled to have seen a notable surge in users since UK golfers began playing again, thousands daily visiting the Golfshake Course Section and Tee Time Search Service in pursuit of somewhere to play, in addition to tracking their rounds in huge numbers on the Golfshake Score Tracker.

Indeed, rounds tracked by everyday golfers on Golfshake have increased by 23% for each of the past two weeks, a trend that has continued a stunning run of growth that makes the last six weeks the busiest in the lifetime of the website.

Additionally, Golf Business News has reported that Sports Marketing Surveys has found that the number of rounds of golf played in the UK has increased dramatically when compared to figures for the same period in 2018 and 2019.  Further evidence to support this is being heard anecdotally at courses across the UK with many courses reporting significant demand for tee bookings and surges in new membership enquiries.

This is further backed up with data provided by Darwin Escapes owners of The Springs in Oxfordshire and Kilnwick Percy in Yorkshire where they are reporting unprecendented tee time allocation and a surge in new membership at both venues.

Finally, Golfshake has also identified a change in behaviour among many golfers, witnessing a steady growth in midweek rounds, a fact that likely reflects the effect of the UK Government's furlough scheme and limits on other recreational activities, but there has been a clear demand for golf seven days a week, a fact that should provide encouragement for the wider industry and is something for clubs nationwide to capitalise on.

Golfers have slipped back into normality seamlessly but with even greater enthusiasm than before, with Golfshake remaining placed as that facility to help them Play More & Play Better.
