Golfer Makes Hole in One With First Shot Back After Lockdown

By: Golfshake Editor | Wed 13 May 2020

The magic of golf, the lure that always makes us come back for more, is that the next shot you play could be the most rewarding you have hit. For Ed Sandison, founder of OCEAN TEE, that took on an entirely unexpected level of significance on the day that courses reopened across England following the lessening of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Playing at Styal Golf Club in Cheshire on Wednesday, Ed celebrated his welcome return to the game by making the first hole-in-one of his life!

So much for all of that rust after nearly two months without hitting a proper shot.

There aren't many layouts in the UK that begin with a par three, but Styal is one of them, measuring 176 yards from the yellow tees.

It's the stuff that dreams are made of, but it underlines those inexplicable moments of joy that this game provides, something that golfers throughout the UK have missed since March 23.

Ed is known throughout the industry for OCEAN TEE, a company that has been launched to support sustainable innovation within golf products, a mission showcased through bamboo golf tees and the brand's new apparel range.

Thousands of golfers have returned to their courses, following the strict social distancing measures outlined by governing bodies, including The R&A and England Golf, with clubs in Wales set to reopen from Monday.

Whenever your first shot is, be it this week or further into the future, it will be a special moment, but few will match Ed for his unforgettable achievement at the least likely of times.

That's golf for you, where the improbable can happen.
