Waterproofs

Posted by: user10367 | Fri 13th Jul 2007 08:04 | Last Reply

To all you proper golfers that play all year round (whatever the weather) we're certainly getting our monies worth from our Waterproofs don't you think.

I've got 2 games coming up this weekend (home club) and both are going to be played in the rain

Chris,

I purchased a Proquip Silk Touch suit today (I had the playing top, the half zip).

Wore it today in all the rain & the trousers were fantastic but the top was really making me hot & I only had a t-shirt underneath. When I took the top off after it felt damp but I'm not sure if that was down to me sweating in it or through the rain, do you know if this is normal??

Thanks,

John..

Try www.thesportshq.com for budget waterproofs. They are selling off some Prosimmon and Bay Hill waterproof kit fairly cheaply. I got the Prosimmon for less than £30 and they seem fine and lightweight. Good for other kit too.

That's the problem with waterproofs, you need to spend a lot of money to get a "breathable" set. even if you go to millets, or other outdoor specialist the cheaper sets you get there are the type that you generally end up more wet on the inside than the outside,

As christopher said above, even the better sets have problems when its humid. you will never stop the warmth inside, i try and wear my short sleved wind tops when its warm and wet, i generally feel more comfortable.

Chris,

I took my top back to my pro who I bought it off & he tried to say that because the rain was quite heavy that I should expect some 'dampness'. I explained that for £179 (which is what I paid for the suit) & the fact that they state you get a 3 year waterproof guarantee I don't expect it to leak after my first round!!

He is now going to send it back for 'testing'

Got a call from my pro who said that Proquip have replaced my jacket Not sure if this had anything to do with me contstantly phoning the pro questioning what "waterproof" actually meant etc.

He kept saying "it was really heavy rain you played in"!!! So what my shoes, didn't leak, the trousers didn't leak & neither did my old Footjoy Dryjoy jacket so I expect a lot more, especially for the money I paid.

Anyway I'll see how the new jacket holds out.
