Accurate Handicaps
Is there any rule about having to keep logging scorecards with your club to ensure you have a true handicap?
Today i played my first tournament in years, and destroyed it, because im still logged as a 28 h'cap from about 2/3 years ago. Since then, i have been practicing hard, and know the course well, but never updated my handicaps.
Today was a stableford competition and i scored 50 points (Hoping il be on the virtual leaderboard!!), winning the competition easily. Surely there must be regulations about having to hand in scorecards every so often so that your handicap reflects your ability.

We used to call those sort of people "Pot Hunters".
My last club used to lapse a players handicap if two competition rounds were not entered in any one year.
Where is the pleasure in winning with a false handicap.

Paul,
If you had come in with a score like that at my club you would have been lynched!!
I always find there are 2 types of people when it comes to handicaps, there are those that like to maintain a high handicap & always say that there 40+ points was 'lucky' & there are those who think they can play off single figures & never score above 30 points.
I'm not saying you fall into the first category at all, in fact well done for putting in all the hard work & practice, hopefully this will continue for the future.
Somewhere people's morals must surely have to come into play somewhere??
John.

Surely if you think your handicap is out dated and far to generous, then you can ask to have it cut. If thats not an option, then fair play to you Paul. If you could have done that, then for the sake of fairness you should have. If you have been practicing hard, then you would know what sort of scores you were getting. If you'd have put them friendly scores on here, you'd have had an idea what you were scoring. Its not like you only just topped 28, you smashed it.

i think it is worked out from your best card of three.
Thus in your case. 93-67 = 26...

it should have worked it out from the average of the three i think. However, its from your Net score rather than your Gross score

Douglas do the FFG adopt the EGA (European Golf Association) system for handicapping which is based more on the USGA average system rather than the UK per round system controlled by CONGU.
To confuse things even further the EGU (English Golf Union) introduced the associated handicap which is an average system, so technically we have 2 systems in the UK both different to the US or Europe.
