Custom fitting

Posted by: user45089 | Fri 30th Mar 2007 19:06 | Last Reply

Just spent £60 and having my icurrent rons custom fitted, 3-pw,56 and 60. Not bad value but its probably knocked 3 strokes off my round. I swing in to out quite steeply, so was taking a deeper divot at heel. Now the divots are very even and am less likely to thin it. All in all excellent value.

One thing the fitter mentioned was the lie angles were all over the place, which is usually from driving ranges, this can lead to a lot of inconsistency !

Having played with Paul, I can tell you that his swing is fine and I doubt very much that you would hit it past him.

As for striking the ground, that is what is supposed to happen, isn't it?

Forget what his handicap is telling you, he is a single figure handicap player.

We all hate seeing the ones who dig up the course, but as long as they replace the divots correctly then no harm should be done.

If they could all take the correct divot then they would all be good players, other things being equal of course.

Andrew,

i would deffo go for custom fitting but I would try & go somewhere where they go into a bit more detail than either DG or AG as in my experiences they just do the very basic, measurement & then striking the ball off a hard mat.

I went to the Belfry, Warwickshire & they examined launch angles, back spin, side spin etc & because I bought the clubs from them they refunded the £50 custom fit fee.

When I went back a few weeks later to collect the clubs they had a Taylormade demo day & the bays were set up for this kind of custom fit so it might be worth looking for a Srixon demo day.

It took me seven months to get to 4 handicap, then realised that I still could not play the game.

Being 4 handicap allowed me to enter the Essex Amateur Championship being held at Romford Golf club in 1959. I then realised very quickly that there was a lot more to the game than I ever imagined. I opened up with an 84 and was propping up the field of 72, pressure off in the afternoon saw me produce a 69, qualifying me for the sunday 36 holes. I shot two round of 75 and finished 15th overall.

If you are going to make 4 handicap, Chris, it will not take 10 years.

I have spent most of my golfing career solely playing open scratch competition and it takes many of these events to learn how to cope, so that ones real game is produced.

I hope you achieve your ambition, all I am saying is that if you are going to achieve it, it will not take 10 years.

John

Perfect examples of proving that it is the operator and not the clubs, Danny.

If you want to see  what your clubs could be custom fitted, give gigagolf.com a look they do custom fitting over the internet. You supply them with data ( just follow the on screen e-fit guide) and they come up with a custom fit. I have done this and purchased a set of irons from them, with 2 dollars to the pound it was a good deal, and delivered from US in 4 days for £26.00. You pick the shaft grips etc. They work for me and I'm 6ft 3ins.

PS Funny how the one's I bought look similar to Callaway X18's although they say definately not!
