Moaning Groaning Grumpy

How would you deal with a regular playing whinger.

Not the occasional rant after a duff shot but a continuous moan and groan attitude from 1st tee to 18th green comprising "dam duffed it" "this is suppose to be fun" "are we nearly finished yet" "lessons are a waste of money" "might as well just forget it"

Have you ever experienced it and what did you do or say....

Dosn't happen that often but when it does I just think "why do you bother - just stop at home if it is that upsetting for you"........

Apart from that I enjoyed the weekends golf very much......

I usually just ignore them. Why waste positive energy on them when you can keep that for yourself. Eventually they get fed up & keep quiet or they improve.

Red rag to a bull for me (although I'm a bit of a mutterer myself).  Try winding him up by:

a) agreeing it was crap shot, waste of money/time etc:

b) pointing out what he's doing wrong (especially if you don't know/care), prefrerably just as he's hit it

c) having a small side bet with other players on the direction/inadequacy of shot, possible tragectory or resulting comment.

d) comment loudly how GOOD your last shot was, what GOOD value for money your lessons were etc:

Chances are he'll be either sick of it by the end of the round or he'll shut up.  And remember, golf is a head game, feed off his negativity. 

I suggest telling him his driver will be difficult to swing when it's shoved where the sun don't shine.  And that would make things worse cos he'll lose distance so the round could be worse than it is.

Iv'e no idea who that could be David, bet he's got lots of fluffy hair though....
