36 Hole Season Starter 2014 - The results!!!!
It's back!!! Again!!! 1 golf club, 2 courses, 36 holes, 1 day
The 36 Hole Season Starter has been well received in previous years so will take place again in 2014. The event will take place at Minchinhampton Golf Club again and will take place on Monday 14th April 2014. This is a week later than 2013 but there are three key reasons for this: -
- it's the day after the final round of The Masters
- It's after the clocks have gone forwards so we have more daylight towards the end
- It's during the school holidays
The general scope will be the same as before; bacon rolls and tea/coffee on arrival, 18 holes on one of the courses, lunch (likely to be soup and sandwiches), 18 holes on the other course, prizes. Cost will be £45
There is a restriction on the number of players with a 36 player maximum so get your name down quick if you want to play. The comp is on the link below: -

2 spaces have now become available due to withdrawals. Put your name down if you want to join in
Just so you know how the courses are coping, the status today was; both courses open, full tees, trollies permitted, 2 temp greens across the 36 holes. No temps were on yesterday. This is a club that isn't afraid to close the courses to protect them, we just drain very well

Good evening everyone
Just a quick update for the 36 Hole Season Starter. The courses have coped with the weather quite well and been open through most of the bad weather. We have had a few temporary greens during the worst of it but other than that the courses have stood up well. Greens are being aerated this week to help them to recover quicker and prepare them for the season. With a couple of warm dry weeks the rough will spring up and the courses will be in good condition
As a reminder the deadline payment is less than three weeks from today. So far I have received 9 out of 34 payments (2 spaces are still available) and those that have paid have received a confirmation from me. If you have paid and I haven't sent you a message confirming payment please let me know. Please make sure I receive your payment before 15th March. Failure to pay will result in removal from the competition
I can now confirm that as well as the upgrade to a full English, the lunch upgrades offered last year will also be available this year. Upgrade costs are: -
Breakfast - extra £3:50
- Full English, orange juice, toast & marmalade on arrival
Lunch - extra £2:50 for one of the following
- Butchers Sausages On A Bed Of Mustard Mash With A Rich Onion Gravy
- Pan-Fried Steak Served In A Warm Baguette With A Side Order Of Fries
- Chicken Tika Masala With Basmati Rice, Popadum & Mango Chutney
- Traditional Fish & Chips With Mushy Peas
- Ham & Brie Ploughman’s With Chutney, Crisp Salad, & Rustic Bread
- Ravioli Filled With Spinach & Ricotta With An Italian Tomato Sauce
- Home Cooked Ham With A Brace Of Eggs & Fries
Please make your payments to the account details in the PM I have just sent. Please put in the reference your name and "36H SS", for example "C Perry 36H SS" so I know who has paid and why. If you want to upgrade please let me know and include this cost in the payment. I'm now starting to take requests for the day, including starting to put groups together. If anyone has anything in particular please let me know.
I hope you're looking forward to this as much as me and that the weather is good. If you have any questions please get in touch by PM or on twitter at @C_S_Perry

All, I've just sent a PM to all those who haven't paid for the 36 Hole Season Starter yet (you know who you are!)
Payment is due by no later than Sunday 16th March, meaning you have exactly ONE WEEK to pay. Failure to pay will result in removal from the event. How to pay and costs are as follows: -
Bacon roll & tea/coffee on arrival, 18 holes on Avening or Cherington, lunch of soup & sandwiches (rolling basis), 18 holes on other course, prizes. Total cost = £45
Please make your payments to the account details in the PM
I can now confirm that as well as the upgrade to a full English, the lunch upgrades offered last year will also be available this year. Upgrade costs are: -
Breakfast - extra £3:50
- Full English, orange juice, toast & marmalade on arrival
Lunch - extra £2:50 for one of the following

- Traditional Fish & Chips With Mushy Peas
- Ham & Brie Ploughman’s With Chutney, Crisp Salad, & Rustic Bread
- Ravioli Filled With Spinach & Ricotta With An Italian Tomato Sauce
- Home Cooked Ham With A Brace Of Eggs & Fries
Please put in the reference your name and "36H SS", for example "C Perry 36H SS" so I know who has paid and why. If you want to upgrade please let me know and include this cost in the payment.
Just so you know, payment is required in advance to guarantee tee times and allow the catering team to plan to feed us all. They actually bring the kitchen staff in early to support our start time so they need to know how many to cater for.
Finally, there are now 4 places still available due to late withdrawls. Please put your name down if you want to play
Reply : Sun 9th Mar 2014 13:51
By the way, there are 16 people still to pay. No payment will mean I won't be able to secure the tee times. Please make sure you pay promptly
Reply : Sat 15th Mar 2014 22:20
FINAL REMINDER!!!!!
Payment is due by tomorrow. 11 people still to pay. Very disappointing since there's been 10 weeks to pay
If I don't have payment I can't guarantee the tee times
Reply : Sun 16th Mar 2014 13:08
Name and shame mate. If, like last year I had a problem with transferring cash at least I let you know. No excuses, sorry, it's just selfish.
Reply : Sun 16th Mar 2014 17:55
A couple have contacted me Tim and I'm happy to help where I can
If the funds haven't appeared in my account by tomorrow (I accept they won't show up if transferred over the weekend until then) they will be put onto the waiting list. I will only guarantee a game for those that have paid on time or made arrangements as I'll only secure tee times for them. Anyone paying late wil, only get a gam if the club allow me extra tee times
Reply : Tue 18th Mar 2014 20:55
Right, it's name and shame time. The following people are onto the waiting list as I haven't received payment or contact
- Danny Alvarez
- Ben Brooke
Also added to the waiting list but not in trouble because he only joined at the weekend is Alex Clark
If those on the waiting list pay (along with those who have contacted me and made arrangements) we will have 32 players. That means there's room for 4 more players
Reply : Wed 19th Mar 2014 06:43
Does Danny know it's not a match play event so there's no chance of him being beat 6&4??
Reply : Wed 19th Mar 2014 07:04
I think he's worried it's Stableford and he won't get to 64!

Chris, Better make sure that the buggy me & Dave are sharing has pretty good suspension!
Reply : Thu 3rd Apr 2014 14:57
I'd just make sure it's got a decent battery Floody. The two we had last year nearly managed 30 holes between them....
Reply : Thu 3rd Apr 2014 15:06
I thought you were a carry bag man all the way! They better have good batteries with all the balls I'll have in my bag just in case.
Reply : Thu 3rd Apr 2014 18:06
Was having a bit of trouble with the knees last year so went with a buggy. Back to normal this year though.

Just a couple of days to go. Weather forecast is cracking (15*C, no rain, next to no wind) so I'm expecting some good scores. Looking forward to it, hope you all are too

Congratulations to Mike Smith on the win with a great 43 points in the morning to set the foundations. Also congratulations to Alan Davison not only for coming second but for securing top three finishes on both rounds
