Golf Club Fees - Good Deal or Not

Posted by: user50354 | Sat 22nd Sep 2007 11:13 | Last Reply

The golf club that I play at regular (as a non - member) has a unique membership scheme. There is a one off life time membership fee of £175.00 after which  £5.00 is knocked off the cost of the green fee's each round you play "for ever" .

The club  is not a municipal but only operates a pay as you go system for both members and non members.

This means that our usual Sunday knock costing £14.00 would only cost £9.00 as a member.

After so many rounds (approx 10 I think) you are given a free 9 holes for during the week play which, you can accumulate and used whenever you want (during the week).

The club has all the benefits of other clubs ie monthly medals, rabbits etc etc and also has the facility of two 18 hole courses.

I keep wondering if this system works out  actually more expensive than clubs with annual fees.

If we just continued playing once a week me and my partner (Tony Dunne) would recoup the £175.00 in 35 weeks and then be quids in. However once becoming a member if we got our official handicaps and play monthly medals etc the cost of each additional round would be £9.00.

So, if we played 5 rounds per month at £9.00 it would cost us £45.00 opposed to £70.00 for non memebers - quite a saving..

But, for £45 per month we could pay annual fees at other clubs and play as often as we wanted. at no extra cost - but would we play more often is the question, possibley 9 holes after work now and then due to logistics.

Interested to hear what other's would prefer - annual fees or cheaper pay as you go.

With all that golf you play, how come you're still off 13.5?

I think you are talking yourself into this bad putting, David. Let me know when you want a game and I will put you right.

John don't you go giving David any lessons until after the north have seen off the southern invasion...

Plus JP is from the south. In fact I'd have him as our captain for the day.

Thank you Danny, but I would have to be selected as a member of the South team first.

When is this proposed match going to take place? I would assume that the venue would most likely be somewhere in the midlands and us southern members and some northern members will be requiring accommodation.
