I've been to the area and these are the courses I'd recommend to play: La Sella, Alicante, Bonalba and Real de Faula. La Sella is a bit further away (Denia) but is really worth the trip. It also has a Marriott hotel on site.
I use www.golfbreaks.com for all my breaks, they always give me a very competitive price, but most importantly, you can't fault the service. Staff has great knowledge of the courses and customer service is impeccable !! Check them out.

Duncan,
I've played Villamartin & Alicante. I would strongly suggest a buggy for the latter as some of the distances between tees can be about a 10min walk plus you are surrounded by appartments & buildings all around!! I put a ball or 2 in someone's pool!!
Villamartin is a nice course, more of a parkland course where stray balls are not punished.
We struggled to find the Alicante course as it is right by a main road & you just don't expect to see a course there.
If you get chance try to play La Finca, this is a superb course & should be hosting some tour events soon.
When are you going?? We are going late November.

I was in Costa Brava for the 2nd and 3rd week in September. Had read up about some of the courses near where we stayed and in particular La Sella near Denia. As it was partly designed by Mr Olazabal, I was really looking forward to it.
Disaster..... On arrival and initial check out of the course we were to find that these two weeks appeared to be the two weeks put aside by courses in this area for green maintenance. Thus we had to 'enjoy' winter greens in 25C weather. Gutted. After much consideration, decided to play La Sella on winters. Although I hate winter green golf, could see that the course was good (not brilliant), and the Marriott looked superb.
