Not very supportive for young children
My daughter and partner drove for half an hour to play a different and new course which had great reviews and was in lovely surroundings. On arrival they were told that my child couldn’t be caddied for by her dad (She weighs 4 stone so unable to carry her own bag for a long period of time), he had three of his own clubs in her bag so they could both play but were advised this wasn’t allowed due to COVID. Golf is a sport that is very social distanced. They have played many courses in the area since lockdown restrictions were lifted and it has never been mentioned, in fact it’s more encouraged as they can go out in their own bubble.
For an up and coming superstar, she was so upset and felt discouraged and has since said she will never ever play the course and will pass on her experiences to all at her current club and lessons.
Instead of them worrying about two family members playing on their own and sharing a bag, they should have been outside on the first tee where there was a huge queue and not much social distancing being adhered to.
She left disheartened but then drove to her regular course and done 9 holes without any fuss and shot a 33 on a par 27. Not bad for an 8 year old little girl.

I was left extremely dissapointed by the service I received recently however. I was looking to play the Par 3 with my partner who was just due to walk the course with me. I was advised that "due to insurance" I would not be able to play alone and have a guest join me without paying. I felt this was a little harsh but accepted this and offered to pay for 2 even though the other person was not actually playing. It turn out his wasn't acceptable now. I was told she could play and they will rent clothing and clubs. I made it clear that she isn't playing but just joining me on the Par 3 course and that by paying for 2 people surely I had covered the insurance issue. I said that if it was important that she plays then she could use my clubs anyway. They said this would slow everyone down. Correct but she had no intention in playing and if she did she would definitely slow the play down!
It was abundantly clear to me that this was about money. The insurance issue was resolved when I reluctantly offered to pay for both. They wanted the extra for the renting of clubs/clothes. This is very dissapointing as I have used the place a number of times and expected a bit more of a reasonable discussion and found the staff to be overly pedantic here. "We don't make the rules, we implement them". Computer says no mentality. Needless to say I won't be returning and I'll be suggesting to my local friends and family not to go to Hobbs Cross.
As a final point, how many people does it take to work a till? 2 men at Hobbs Cross.
