Fair Challenge
Wouldn't want to play it when it's been raining, but loved the layout and the fair challenge. Made you think off the tee and there were plenty of bunkers and run off areas off the greens to focus your attention. The greens were a little fluffy, but I imagine they can't cut them too low due to the constant windy conditions. Clubhouse was multi purpose, good selection of beers etc. But food took too long on a busy Thursday.All in all, great round and would happily play again.

Absolutely fantastic venue
What a gem! I brought a society to play and all 16 of us had an fantastic day out. We paid £37.50 each for The Nicklaus package which included bacon rolls and tea/coffee on arrival followed by 18 holes then a 2 course meal in the restaurant afterwards. Literally every aspect was of the highest quality. A warm welcome on arrival, accompanied by delicious bacon baps. We then made use of the free driving range tokens (included in the package) then played the course. The only thing which took the shine off of the course were the boggy conditions but given the record breaking amount of rainfall we’ve had these last few weeks, it’s hardly surprising. Boggy fairways aside, the course and layout was absolutely stunning. Then onto the food after. I had the mushroom and nut Wellington followed by a cheesecake. Both dishes were brought out promptly and were of a fantastic quality. Lastly, I thought the practice facilities were top quality and the club house and pro shop were on par, possibly even better Thank you for hosting us Machynys. What a golf club!Reviewer Rating

Amazing course
I was blown away by this course (literally). For £25 twilight you could not find better value in the UK. I couldn’t believe the quality of the course, every hole was interesting, greens challenging and lovely layout. It was outstanding. The wind blew 15-20mph constant but wasn’t too much.. I imagine it’s hard work on a cold rainy day though.Reviewer Rating

Wet, wet, wet
Course very wet and not worth ?40 in such conditions. Not courses fault as very heavy rain but 50% refund would have been appreciated or maybe 50% green fee discount on next visit.Reviewer Rating

Good true test of golf in every option .greens very true. Bunkers have good amount of sand in them.

Set overlooking the beautiful Carmarthenshire bay, this 18-hole Nicklaus designed golf course is one of the most exiting new golf courses in the UK.
On arrival, the quality of this venue immediately becomes apparent. as you make your way down the long driveway to a modern and luxurious clubhouse, it is clear to see that this resort has been designed by a true professional.
The quality of the practice facilities match that of the clubhouse, and with a complimentary bucket of balls on arrival, and a practice putting green that would rival that of any other golf club in Wales, you will be fully prepared before walking onto the first tee.
The opening tee shot requires a carefully placed drive to the right hand side of the fairway, this will open up the green and leave you with the best opportunity to attack the pin.
The uniqueness and quality of every hole makes it difficult to single out a signature hole on the front nine, but many courses would struggle to match the quality of the short par-4 fourth. This dangerous and exiting hole required a careful lay-up off the tee, and an accurate and precise approach to one of the most undulating green on the golf course.
As you reach the turn, you are faced with a daunting tee shot on the dangerous par-4 ninth. Anything pulled to the left will result in your next shot being hit from heavy rough, whilst pushed shots to the right will find themselves at the bottom of the lake. A par on this hole is always a good score and will set you up nicely for the start of the back nine.
Birdie opportunities are few and far between on this course, but holes 13 and 14 are two of them. With the 13th being a reachable par-5 for many, and a short par-4 to follow, making the most of these holes is imperative.
The signature hole on the golf course comes in the form if the 16th. This long and daunting par-4 is one of the most picturesque golf holes in Wales. A long and straight drive followed by a well struck mid iron is required on this hole, with any wayward shots being punished by heavy rough and deep bunkers.
The closing holes on this course are perhaps not the most challenging on the golf course, but a well-struck drive is required on the 18th in order to clear the water. A relatively short par-5 to finish lets you enjoy the walk down the 18th, and gives you time to reflect on the trials and tribulations of your round.
As you sit in the clubhouse and reflect on your round, the quality of the food and the ambience in the bar will make the off-course experience at Machynys as enjoyable as the golf itself.

One of the best!
Absolutely stunning course!It was in great condition, fairways and greens were brilliant.
A great challenge for all level of golfer.
Clubhouse and facilities were also excellent.
Definitely recommend this course.

Great winter golf

Played as a Golf Society (24) on a Saturday. Course was immaculate, the fairway was like walking on a plush carpet. Greens were exceptional too. Long course and some really tough par 4's (distance/hazard) but some absolute crackers too. Thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and the members welcomed 24 'foreigners' onto their course with open arms - good value day out and highly recommend.
