Pretty average in all aspects of a course in Surrey. Paid a green fee of £50 and felt as if I should have had better service/quality all round. Won\'t be coming back as I think that courses local to this one a far better value for money and better ambience.\Don\'t grudge the cash just expected better.

condition of the course was very good but design of the course was boring, apart from the 13th which was a nice par 3. All the other holes were straight with tree lined fairways. Apparently they charge £75 midweek to play it. I was playing it in a competition for golf days uk on there surrey/sussex tour. they had a range but only for irons, they had a chipping green and putting green. i'm pleased i played it but would not return there unless it was absolutely necessary.

West Byfleet GC

A parkland course in reasonably good condition for the time of year. Very flat and a lot of long par 4's. Fairways mostly in good condition. Some of the greens were a bit patchy but time of year and weather have not helped. Club house and facilities were very good. Ample parking and easy to find. A long way from where I live, so good to play once but not regularly for me.

Good interesting course

Starting with the Clubhouse/food; Our society booking included coffee/tea and bacon rolls before our 18 holes, which were really good, and enough areas for us to be separate from a Surrey Past Captains Society also playing that day. After golf, we had sandwiches and chips, which the club had put on the previous year, and this was well received, so that ‘package’ was ordered again. Great selection of very fresh sandwiches, and very good chips, and plenty of both.

Changing rooms were very tidy and certainly big enough for our group of 23, although obviously we were not all in there at the same time.

Pro shop seemed reasonably well stocked, but I didn’t check on the prices, except for £5 for a magnetic ball marker. There seemed to be a lot of ladies’ clothes, which is not usual at most clubs.

Staff were really good and very helpful and friendly. Greenkeeping staff were about but not obtrusive. We saw a number of robot grasscutters of various sizes, which are being brought into use, although the ground was so dry, there was little to no grass to cut!

On to the course, where the tees and greens were well watered and therefore green, although the greens had been allowed to be longer than usual, so were a little slow, but still consistent and running true. Some with wicked slopes. Fairways were very, very dry and hard as rock, so only the better players were picking the ball up clean off such tight lies. I visited a number of bunkers, and most had just a thin layer of sand in the bottom before striking harder compact sand, which made playing a proper bunker shot almost impossible.

The layout of the course is quite interesting, and although I read reports of noise from trains going by on one side, this was not too evident when I played. Pace of play was good – our society was made up of one 3 ball, and five 4 balls, and we all got round in reasonable time, and didn’t seem to be holding any groups up.

Overall, I liked the course and would hope that it will be not so dry next time I play, but I would recommend and will play again, probably in 2026.

Lovely Course

Driving past West Byfleet GC on the A245 gives little away of the delights it has in store, and even once you're in the car park there's little to get excited about. However, once the course comes into view you just know that you're at one of the nicer courses that Surrey has to offer.

The course is very much tree lined, although I don't remember many holes where the trees made the fairways tight. Not that there aren't any tricky tee shots, because the large number of very well maintained bunkers means that you'll still have to hit good shots to hit the fairways. The greens are also well protected by bunkers. Water (I think) only comes into play in front of the pretty, and tricky, par 3 13th.

As for the condition of the course, the fairways were great, the greens were excellent, and the fairways don't let the course down either.

I would say that all standards of golfer would enjoy playing here.

The only downside to playing here is the huge number of trains that thunder past the course, but perhaps that isn't the worst thing in the world.

I didn't use it, but that clubhouse looks really lovely, and there's a well stocked pro shop with a warm welcome for visitors.

West Byfleet is a course that'd been around for 112 years by the time that I finally got to play it, and after playing it once I'm now hoping I don't have to wait quite as long to visit it again.

I am fortunate enough to know a member here and play here 3 or 4 times a year, the course is always in excellent condition with the greens being especially good. The fairways are quite forgiving but you do need a good drive of at least 230/240 yards on most holes to have a chance of being on the green in two. The wildlife is lovely with deer roaming around the course, good value for £30 but a bit trumpy at £60 without a member.
