Golf Course Reviews for Farnham Estate Golf Club
QuagmireWhat a pity. Excellent layout and routing with some classic holes. Excellent sand based greens and tee boxes. All Fairways a Quagmire....Wet Wet Wet !!!!. Played it in Sept 2017, placing on all fairways and rough. Could not find relief anywhere as it was that wet. Some balls were lost after clearly landing in the middle of the fairways !!\After complaining to the golf pro, he explained that there had been substantial rainfall. Hello this is Ireland ...... It rains quite a lot, so the drainage system appears to be the issue. The fairways were saturated and there was very little runoff in the large catchment manholes.\This course must be built on marshland owing to the abundance of marsh grasses and reeds on either side of all the fairways. This course was opened approx 9 years ago i.e start of recession in Ireland....... No Clubhouse, poor facilities, poor drainage.\If cash was spent on this course then the golf course could reflect the high standards achieved in the adjacent hotel
Beautiful, picturesque course. Greens were superb. Pro shop was good and very reasonable. However, no bar available after the round (you could go to the hotel, but its a reasonable distance away). I was there with a golf society so we went back to our own hotel.

For Time of year course greens in good condition. The White flag at the last hole felt quite apt, the course punishes wayward drives. Very hilly and good challenge. Very wet in places but that's the Time of year I guess. Very very good value for money 20euros.

Although only a few years old, this course has already matured rapidly. Many of the fairways and greens have been hewn out of woodland, but you wouldn't know it when playing.
We played after a weekend of deluges - only drying for us on the day - and yet the grounds survived it very well. The greens are like snooker tables and you could be forgiven for practising your putting on the tees.
The course has been panned out to play in a largely clockwise direction - it certainly hasn't been crammed in. This aspects adds very much to the uniqueness of each hole. No two holes are "alike". Although not hilly, it's not flat either - you may have to take your bets on a few blind shots, for example on the shortish but "tight" 10th.
You will use every club in your bag to get around this one, the par 4s are generally a decent drive and a middish-to-long iron. The bunkers are set in whispy grass and are largely reminiscent of links type. Because of the lie in fairway bunkers, I was often tempted to try a 5-wood out of the fairway-beaches (several!) I found myself in.
There's enough width in the fairways to give the more wayward of us half-a-chance, but beware the really wild Tee-shots. For those, it's likely to be a reload!
Rolling grasslands are complemented as they give way to forested woodlands for the back nine. If the golf's not so good, the views are stunning!
A beautiful setting, on a course which has the characteristics of parkland, woodland, and links - with a bit of water lobbed in for good measure. A real challenge for the good golfer, and a bag of fun for those, like me, who have to work on everything.
The facilities are basic, but new and clean. But why hold back on a new clubhouse etc when that course is there to be played? The staff are extremely friendly.
Our group travelled over 100 miles to get to this one, and we're going back next month!
Signature Hole? For me the 2nd. The view downhill from the tee, to a green in a glade protected by small river/pond in front reminded me of the stuff you see on telly from Augusta!
Play it - you'll love it.
No clubhouse as yet, just portakabins but the people there were very welcoming and friendly. A good course with excellent shape to the holes, bunkers make you think about where you want to play to.
A strokesaver or equivalent would have been handy in a few places as depth perception is tricky, especially the tee shot over the water at the 18th!!
The greens were excellent, with even the tees better than most courses greens!! Given time and a decent clubhouse this place would be up the rankings even higher.
