Essex is bereft of decent golf courses but this is probably the best pay and play course locally to us. Fairways obviously brown due to the hot weather but the greens are in excellent condition.Course (layout/challlenge)

Reviewed Oct 8 2016 by Ben B - rated 2 out of 5 Played early on a Saturday morning. Paid £32 for the round plus another £12 to share a buggy. The course isn't in good condition. The greens are being prepared for winter, which is fine but it would have been prudent of the club to inform me of this at the time of booking, or even perhaps offer a green fee discount. I don't think that the round is worth £32 when comparing to other local courses. I'm local so will no doubt try again next year, probably at a reduced twilight rate or similar.

No problem with this being done, but we weren't told pre-round, and it did spoil the round. A discount should be offered when this has happened as it temporarily lowers the quality of the course (which of late has been very good).

Greens are now rock hard. However, main problem is slow play. This is caused by there being no rangers on the course and the fact that the rough and semi rough are way too long and balls that shouldn't be lost are lost and time is wasted searching. They need to sort this out.

A good round today so can't really moan. Would play there again but pricey at the weekend. I don't think it's a £26 course

Good club house and facilities. Worth a visit for medium / high handicappers but if you're in the Southend area my suggestion would be Belfairs.

I'm hitting a bit longer nowadays and not just because of the parched fairways, seem to put my bigger clubs into the hazards. Greens far too slow, when most greens I now play on are fast so was difficult to readjust.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 93 Handicap: 17.4)
