Poor on all fronts

Poor mud everywhere and expensive for what it is. Greens uneven and when asked one Groundsmen he shrugged his shoulders and told me play somewhere else if my group didn't like it. Tell you played local council course week later, miles better and another course Redbourn GC both allot cheaper and better condition. Wont be going back in a rush need bring bank balance if buy any food or drink, even that was poor.

Not worth it

£55 for a round course in poor condition, staff rude and made comment to greenkeeper and was told to f off and play somewhere else. Plenty better course's locally in better condition and friendlier.

Extremely slow playing

Played as a golf break 36 holes over two days. On
The Sunday the course was extremely slow as a ladies society the pink flamingos lost ground to n the course when I complained at the end of the round they said three Marshall?s had been out trying to get them moving quicker but failed thank god on the second day we were teeing off before them

Dissapointing Bank Holiday

I played Luton Hoo on Bank Holiday Monday (07/05). Relatively local to the area I had heard some great things about the course, with the only negative being that some of the tree's needed to mature. In my eyes, that sounds like a good course if the only thing it needs is some time to flourish!

The weather was unbelievable, 29 degrees and what a day to go and play what I thought would be a top round with a group of friends. The group consisted of 2 single handicappers and 2 off 12-14, all relatively handy with a stick in their hands. We walked up to the first tee after being told tee time's were on time - first lie, we teed off 8 minutes late, but hey - no big deal! From there on in the round was a disaster. The greens were the slowest greens I've ever played on, and I've played temporary greens at 9 hole courses in the rain! I couldn't fathom how a putt which was all downhill and had been given a good 'knock' with the putter could still be 8 feet short.. The play was slow, now when I say slow I mean painfully slow. The round took 4 hours and 45 minutes, with at least a 4-6 minute wait on every tee box and approach shot. We mentioned it to the pro at the turn who then told the group 2 ahead to speed up. They let through the group in front and for 1 hole we were away! Not to be.. Within a hole we were back to dawdling pace and it took forever to even hit your first shot.

We finished the round and I complained to the starter, what a joke. £160.00 green fee between the 4 of us and I feel like I could of played a municipal course. We got a round of drinks for free, which is a good gesture but when 3 of you have soft drinks to try and recover from the heat it isn't exactly generous. We then had some lunch, more like dinner, which cost a fortune and promptly left.

I won't be returning to Luton Hoo any time soon. Can't believe I stuck with it and didn't just walk off the course now I look back. If you're going to play there make sure there is at least 2 tee time's free in front of you or you'll be there till Christmas.

Disappointed

We went on 11/2/18 and were playing temporary greens although we were told all greens were on.yes it isn’t the weather for perfect golf conditions but £40 is a bit much for a poor condition course.

Luton Hoo Hotel is a magnificent, grande country mansion set in beautiful gardens. A real gem. The golf course however is disappointing in the extreme and does not reflect the grandeur of the house.
Luton Hoo Golf Course course gives the impression of being hastily put together across flat unused farm land. Unlike the mansion, there are no memorable features. No bunkers. Some water but nothing exciting. An experience akin to a trudge across neglected grazing pasture. Trying to spot the course signage was a hilarious distraction from the tedium! Probably the worst course played this year. Oh dear Luton Hoo, are you leaning too heavily on your 5* Mansion & Spa reputation ? Complacency is dangerous. I have played a lot of 'lesser' renowned courses this year that are far far better and deliver amazing value for money by comparison.

Misguided aspirations

A crisp sunny saturday in March 2010, mid morning tee off. An impressive entrance and a magestic manor house in mature estate gardens. I believe Luton Hoo has aspirations to be akin to The Grove. Good luck, they'll need it. The setting has the potential but, perhaps the pot hole at the main gate was an indicator of the flaws within.

The local facilities / brasserie etc around the shop were all closed. We were directed to the main house for coffee but gave up after receiving poor service and a coffee pricing in at £4.25. A brochure in the hotel showed a photo of a nicely groomed golf course.

Staff in the shop were pleasant enough, the course was very quiet too. We soon understood why. This course in its current condition is the worst golf course I have played in 20 years. A waste of money at £35 per round (and prices increasing next month). The greens were all brown, the entire course was un-prepared. 150yd markers were incorrectly placed (anywhere between 150 and 200yds out, as confirmed by our GPS). Parts of the course resembled a building site. Finally the shoe cleaner was out of order.

The course itself is split with 9 holes on the older estate grounds, predominantly featureless parkland with little or no definition between fairway, rough and green. The other 9 holes are in immature land with plentiful plantings of staked saplings overlooking the unsightly M1 with some man made lakes at the far end (the first of which is lined with unsightly plastic and surrounded by a wire mesh fence).

We will certainly not be making a return visit.

Expensive for what it is...

To be fair the date of this review is early February so I didn't expect the course to be in pristine condition. It was relatively dry but the mud seemed to stick to your shoes and ended up everywhere (I carried but those who took trolleys had to jet wash them at the end). The cost of the round was ?50 for a Sunday morning so quite expensive compared to others in Milton Keynes. Bacon rolls were ?6 and coffees ?4 so again not cheap. The course was in OK condition, greens a little lumpy (fair enough for this time of year) but having never played it before the signage to the next tees was awful (as was the signage to get to the venue). There are trees in the middle of the fairway on 2 or 3 holes - some dead where they seem to be getting rid of them? When we played it was blowing a gale and the course is pretty open which made it more challenging than normal. Overall I don't think it lived up to my expectations of a perceived 'quality' course although they seem to charge for the privilege. I couldn't really recommend based on that alone.

Poor value for money

Thought play as heard about Ryder cup and not played before as only down the road. Very disappointed with condition off the course compared to how much the green fees are. Other courses in area are much better condition and cheaper. If they are going hold Ryder Cup definitely need look at their management off the course as it was poor. Plus bar and food bloody expensive.

Better Courses locally and cheaper

Greens and fairways really suffered and very muddy. No features and over priced better courses locally with better facilities, and cheaper food and drink which also over priced and poor had send the food back as cold.

New owners allot to do

Played the course in areas very poor with greens not in good playing conditions, considering just been bought and rumours are that it whats to compete with The Grove. Allot of work needed by new owners and greenstaff to achieve this. Plenty off better conditioned courses in local area which be playing before going back to Luton Hoo.
