Early morning golf

Took advantage of the buggy blitz for an early morning round. Both courses are fairly similar with the Wellington having more water which makes it more of a challenge. Nice course that's relatively flat.

Wellington Course (long one)

At 6127 yards it's a longish course (Waterloo is shorter and tighter) but fairly forgiving, as long as you stay out of the rough, because it is very deep rough indeed. Foot-long thick grass gives you little chance of finding your ball. Apart from that the course is fairly well maintained with excellent greens - but quite a few large areas of GUR when we played there.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your recent feedback. We recently carried out spraying the clover which was causing some issues to our golfers losing balls & slowing down there rounds.

The "long grass" will be a feature of the golf courses in the future again will be sprayed & raked in the autumn to thin out the thickness of the grass. This will give the ability for golfers to find their ball & able to play a shot out.

We hope to see you revisit us in the near future.

Many Thanks,
Andy

It’s very bad

I’ve played here 3 times now and it consistently leaves me underwhelmed and now the condition is on par with pitch and putts you’ll find by the seaside. Tee boxes resembled a temporary car park, fairways were just ok, greens ran fairly true but were extremely slow with a lot of pitch marks and random small holes in. The trouble on the course makes it a slow laborious round with groups in front constantly looking for lost balls as the rough is waist high and even in second cuts is full of clover so even half decent shots are punished. The bunkers if they're not full of water were full of stones and extremely compact. The clubhouse has no pro shop either. The only thing that saves it is the beer is cold and the food is quite nice

Hi Glen,

Thanks for your recent feedback. We recently carried out spraying the clover which was causing some issues to our golfers losing balls & slowing down there rounds.

We have also had some irrigation issues, which with all the dry weather we have had in the UK over the last few months this has highlighted areas not receiving the amount of water needed for the tee boxes especially.

The "long grass" will be a feature of the golf courses in the future again will be sprayed & raked in the autumn to thin out the thickness of the grass. This will give the ability for golfers to find their ball & able to play a shot out. Recently we cut back this area which will provide a bigger 1st & 2nd cut area.

We have exciting projects going on at the club with the start of our bunker redesign which will see every bunker on the course redesigned over the coming months.

In terms of our Pro shop, we do have a pro shop online which can be visited at https://www.golfshop.live/ . Our golf check in offers products needed for your round of golf on the day - for example Balls, Tees, Gloves & small accessories thats may be needed.

We hope to see you revisit us in the near future.

Many Thanks,
Andy

Grass too long!

I have played Sherfield (Waterloo) many time and always enjoyed but the green keeper has elected not to cut the rough so unless you hit straight and often long your ball is gone. A shame as most average golfers will be intimidated by the challenge

Hi Clive,

Thanks for your feedback.

We recently sprayed the clover across both courses, within the coming week this should improve the playability. We have also reshaped some of the holes recently which is why we allowed for the rough to grow out, which again has been thinned out.

We hope to see you visit us again soon.

Many Thanks,
Andy

It was ok but watch this space

The course conditions were ok, not amazing but there seemed to be a lot of work going on… the course I think would be a better course for fair weather golfers in the summer as the bunkers were full of water and the course had been suffering leather jackets. It was earlier in the year that we played it so I can only think it was going to get better, if the course conditions met the hospitality and catering I’d mark it 10/10. As I say it was being worked on and GetGolfing seem to be investing a lot in to it and fingers crossed it will be up to their Pyrford Lakes course conditions very soon but a good challenge all the same!

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your feedback & it's great to hear you had a fantastic day with us.

Please keep an eye out for the upcoming bunker projects starting on the wellington course, which over the coming months will see a huge improvement on both courses. Which is similar to work that was completed at Pyrford Lakes.

We hope to see you again soon.

Many Thanks,
Andy

tough in the heavy conditions

Potentially a good layout just requiring a lot more work to get to a standard where i would say "yes love to go back" - i'm sure they'll get there given the appropriate weather and time spent maintaining the fairways and greens.
10th is a mess - maybe temporarily turn it into a short par 3 to save losing balls on the fairway.

Normally two 18 hole courses Waterloo and Wellington. During winter Trafalgar comes into play being a mix and match of both courses. Protects the dampest part of the two courses. A little muddy but still excellent condition for winter. Both 18 holes reopening next week 14th Feb.
