I have been playing golf for 30 years and I know a good course when I cant see the green from the tee on the majority of the holes (think about it :p ) and Chobham falls into this category.
Seriously friendly and accommodating staff.
Spoiler: Comprehensive hole by hole account with tips follow. Do NOT read this if you wish to play the course fresh.
1st: Blind dogleg right par 4 - Aim for left hand side (mind the OOB) . A 5 iron for placement will do here. Hybrid or longer iron will be fine if your accurate. Do not take a driver on this hole as you will either reach the ditch (summer) or block yourself out by the trees fronting the green.
2nd: Simple enough Par 3. Big green so club selection is important. Better to be short than long of the pin.
3rd: DogLeg right Par 4: Pond in front of the tee, rough and bunkers catch the long drives and there is a nasty OOB up the right hand side to catch the slices or those trying to drive up to the green. Recommend a low iron, hyrbid or 5 wood to reach the apex leaving a short iron in. Warning: This green plays a LOT shorter than it looks, even uphill into the wind. I dont know if the markers are wrong or the green is particularly firm but anything other than a high dropped shot to the green will bound off the back and into real trouble. Much better to be short of the pin on this hole.
4th: Simple Par 3 apart from bunkers being everywhere! Windy part of the course so judgement of the ball flight is paramount here.
5th: Dogleg left Par 4: Go down the fairway and you will almost certainly be blocked out by the two magnificent trees slap bang in front of the green! Best to aim for the left rough (hardly rough) or aim well left for the next fairway, seriously.
6th: Long Par 5, bunkers are a huge danger for the second shot should you survive the first shot! Large pond to the right will catch all the slices and even the straight shots as it will kick the ball right into the water. You must aim for the left hand side or chickn out and go very left, even on the next fairway. Green is large and has quite a severe slope so 3 putts are common.
7th: Short pat 3, 2 bunkers, short iron, severe green so its not a guaranteed par.
8th: Dogleg left Par 4. Short hole but you must hit the ball straight or with a slight draw. Trees of death to the left and a pond to the right will catch the rest. Simple green, great birdie chance hole.
9th: Par 4, doglef left. Beauty of a hole. You can go for a long stright drive over the trees to the left but you risk going OOB to the left. However, you can get a kick down to the green in one if you pull it off. However, the safe play is to hit a long iron , hybrid or 3/5 wood to the safe fairway and although you will be 250-300 yards away you will have to believe me that you could top a mid-iron and it will run all the way down the hill to the green. Very good chance of a birdie on this hole and its probably easier than a long Par 4.
10: Short straight Par 4, drivable but trees of death all up the right hand side. Err to the left or even go for the 9th fairway to the left but this would leave you with a blind wedge over a bunker. You could play a 5 iron up the fairway leaving a shosrt iron anyway for an east par.
11: Straight average length Par 4. No huge danger here but second shot is hard to read, length wise for some reason I cannot quite fathom.
12. Dogleg right Par 4 - hardest hole on the course by some margin as you have to hit a decent straight drive otherwise you will have none to little chance of making the green in two.
13. Straight Par 5, usually wind behind. Staked trees on right, bunkers to the left. Fairway is essential if you want to get on in two. Otherwise, casual shot off the tee, a safe mid iron between the two trees will run you down the hill leaving a short pitch to the green which is very slopey, back to front.
14. Par 3 - excellent hole that is very hard to read on length as it goes downhill with a hidden dip.
15. Par 3 - 200 yards over water. This is the signature hole as seen on their website. Need to be long and straight here to get your Par.
-- Many people finish their round here as its in fact the closest green to the clubhouse and car park and the last 3 holes are over the road and almost seem like an unneeded addition though they are fun in their own right. --
16. Tiddly Par 4 slight dogleg right. No driver needed here and not recommended. Mid to long iron will be fine to leave you a wedge into a small, deceptively tricky and guarded green. Its surprising how many pars people do not get on this tiny hole. Trees everywhere!
17. Short severe dogleg right Par 4: Ferocious hole - considering its length this is in my opinion the second hardest hole on the course. Anything longer than a mid iron and you risk reaching the water directly in front, after the apex. In fact, I always play this hole with two 8 iron shots! Nasty trees to the right and I cannot see any real reason to try and drive over these as the green is extremely nasty, to put it mildly. The green is small and protected by two bunkers, one of which must have been dug by somebody in a bad mood. Its then you find out that the pin has been stuck in the very middle on a plateau and unless you hit the shot of your life or can putt you may find yourself chipping back and forth until it gets dark a bit like a crazy golf course! Great hole if the pin is placed here. Pin at the front and its fairly easy to play.
Challenge: Place your ball behind either of the bunkers and see if you can stop the ball on the green!
18th: Very long Par 3 - yes, another one. Tricky large green, bunker at the back, trees of death to the right catching anything other than a straight or pulled shot.
Great Course.

Lovely course
First time playing here. This is not a long course, but does require accuracy off the tee. The fairways were baked so the tee shots played a lot longer than normal which made scoring somewhat easier! Greens were in good condition. Very receptive but a little bumpy in places, but the ball rolled true enough. I was disappointed in the number of pitch marks left which I was fixing as I went.Quite a few blind shots on the course which makes it interesting. I particularly liked the 1st, 9th, 13th, 15th and 18th holes.
I'll definitely play this course again.

Interesting course, only really need the Driver 4 or 5 times in the round, as being long on every shot can lead to trouble (this is a good thing in my opinion). There are six Par 3's but these are by no means 'gimmes' and they are all very different too.
I've already come to work this morning and recommended Chobham to all my colleagues, so will definitely be playing here again when I get the chance.

The course was great! Rarely a blade of grass out of place. The bunkers were the only minor fault, but I don't think the greenkeepers are to blame here as we had a lot of rain in the area in the preceding weeks so they had suffered a bit from that.
I really liked this course, not only because I won the individual prize in my society, but because I have rarely played courses that are as fair as here. You are rewarded for consistent play with birdie chances, but also punished if you stray just slightly. The greens were impeccable and putting was thoroughly enjoyable. People have mentioned the length as being a negative factor, but really I don't think any of the holes seemed 'short' in anyway, as those par-4's with the shorter yardages are usually strategic dog-legs where club selection is a make or break.
All in all, great fun day out. (Handicap 19 - Score 85)

It isn't long, but it isn't without it's defences if you start to stray too far from the fairways and greens. It was in good conditon, although the bunkers were suffering a little from all the horrendous rain we've had recently.
I am not sure I would want to pay the full price to play here, but if you can get a deal then it's an excellent place to play. I know I hope to get back there again soon.

The course seems to have had extensive work done to it in regards to drainage. Extra paths are present, to make the transition between holes much smoother - and dry. The fairways were like carpets for the best part. I think I only saw a couple of divots the entire way round, so the greenkeepers are clearly working hard! The best part for me though, were the stand out greens! I have been fortunate enough to play some great courses in my time, including Sunningdale Old, Wentworth West and Walton Heath, and I have to say, the greens here are some of the best I've ever putted on.
I think the club want you to think the 15th hole here is the signature hole, but for me, my favourite has to be the 17th. A relatively short par 4, but severe dog-leg to the right with water ahead, means that clubs selection here could really make or break your round. Add in a tree lined teeing ground and a sloping green, closely guarded by two intimidating bunkers, and you have what I personally believe to be a cracking golf hole.
All in all, I would thoroughly recommend visiting here if you haven't, and if you came a few years ago, then trust me, it's worth a visit back here as the improvement is immeasurable. I would rate it 6 stars, but they cap it at 5!
