Hotchkin - Fabulous course

It is a fabulous course. We did a 4 ball end of Sept and took advantage of a twilight at 3pm and for £65 each managed to complete by 7pm nightfall - just. It was magnificent! Some of the bunkers were the scariest I've ever seen. I had to pick up out of 2 of them and take a blob! But they do look amazing. Some wonderful holes. Beautiful heather and gorse - really remind me of Formby at times and also NorthHants in places. Can't wait to return! They do a society rate (8 golfers minimum) of £85 including bangers and mash and the Lincolnshire sausages in the clubhouse are amazing!!

Driving range is top quality too!

2.5 hours from the midlands if you go A46, A17 bypassing Newark - still just shorter than North Devon - just!

Will go back and stay and try Bracken too - fairways looked absolutey lush!

I organised all my trip through the fantastic Brian Kettleborough

What a wonderful course. Bunkering and heather is superb and always makes you think off the tee. Some of the best par 3's and 5's in the country too. Real risk/reward holes. Thoroughly enjoyed playing here.

Hotchkin is worth the trip

Played both on one of the hottest days of the year

Hotchkin is a brilliant heathland course, you can see why it features in so many top course listings. Tough but fair, you've got to avoid those bunkers to score well

Bracken is a parkland track, much more open but protected by tricky greens and clever hole designs, and still worth playing despite not quite being as memorable as Hotchkin.

Value for money is awesome, considering the fact that if hotchkin was in Surrey you'd be paying 2/3 times the cost

Absolutely Top Notch !

We played both courses for the ?133 package and wow what an experience. The Bracken is immaculate and the layout is really appealing for a decent golfer. Top quality fairways and greens and a really interesting course. We had fish and chips takeaway from the club house and then played the Hotchkin ... wow, this is a serious course and serious challenge. Bunkers everywhere, beautiful landscapes, hidden hazards which are sometimes behind other hazards and par 3's to make your eyes water. The Hotchkin could destroy some golfers and needs careful thought and an ability to be able to do good bunkers shots. Would certainly pay the same again as getting both courses for that price means they work out at ?65 each which for the quality is a good deal. Unfortunately we were hit by hail and a storm halfway through but it didn't stop us enjoying the reasons why its ranked in the world top 100 courses (54 i think).

Great course, but not for high handicappers (unless you play from the forward tees). Many holes need a 200yard carry to reach the fairway, and you could spend many happy hours trying to escape from the many cavernous bunkers. A great golfing challenge, a step up from most of the courses I have played.

Fantastic course worth visiting

It had rained all day and we teed off at 2.00 pm. Would have expected the course to be really wet with water lying on the surface, however the course showed no signs of a heavy downpour and only 1 green had water on it.

Wow!!

What an amazing course, lucky enough to play here with a tour pro through a friend who?d won a competition and it will be the best Monday I've booked off in a long while. Great parkland course with so many challenges, true honest greens and everyone we spoke to there was so friendly, would love to go back

One of the best in England

Fantastic course, in the top five in England. Superb condition, 284 bunkers and a course you need to plot your way around. Highly recommended

Stunning

Played both courses.

Hotchkin
Wow. What a stunning golf course. From tee to green you can't fault it.
It is difficult, the heather and rough can be very punishing. There are bunkers in places where you can see and the greens perfect with such subtle breaks.
Each hole leaves you wanting more, so many you might play differently the next time round.
If you can play 18 holes here and avoid bunkers you've done REALLY well.
Its the kind of course that score goes out the window and you should just really enjoy it for what it is.

Bracken
I loved the fact the 2 courses were such a contrast. The Bracken felt wider from the tee and a little more forgiving, that said the thick rough was still very penal. Most holes are tree lined giving a different feel playing a parkland.

The greens were a lot more undulating but still challenging and the bunkers will still need to be avoided but you can open your shoulders and let a little loser with the driver if you wanted.
Again tee to green the condition was superb and a credit to the greenstaff.

Incredible golf course and test of golf

Played 36 holes at Woodhall this weekend in their annual mens open. This is the 2nd year I've played it and it's reminded me how much I loved the course last time.
The course was in absolutely faultless condition, with greens firm but holding well struck shots and a very good pace. There have been a large number of new bunkers put in since last year and the 18th has now been made a par 5. All the changes have been fully bedded in and apart from some of the grass around the new bunkers looking a little greener than that next to it, you'd never know they were new bunkers.
Well worth making the trip up to the home of England Golf if you've not yet played it.
