A great course

We played the Bracken Course earlier this week and can honestly say it's a challenge. There are no easy holes, there are no easy greens but the whole course is fair for handicappers of all abilities. The traps are there, the bunkers are a challenge and there?s many of them.

Having said all of that Bracken is as good as a course I've played.

Nice course to play as opposed to Hotchin. Last few holes don't live up to expectations, particularly the last its just an ordinary hole you would find on most good courses. Is it worth the money, ? try for yourself and see!

Fabulous course and facilities

Played the Hotchkin course, Which was in excellent condition. Great layout and good challenge to avoid the many bunkers strategically placed around the course.
Practice facilities and club house extremely good, Looking forward to returning.

Hotchkin - Fabulous course

It is a fabulous course. We did a 4 ball end of Sept and took advantage of a twilight at 3pm and for £65 each managed to complete by 7pm nightfall - just. It was magnificent! Some of the bunkers were the scariest I've ever seen. I had to pick up out of 2 of them and take a blob! But they do look amazing. Some wonderful holes. Beautiful heather and gorse - really remind me of Formby at times and also NorthHants in places. Can't wait to return! They do a society rate (8 golfers minimum) of £85 including bangers and mash and the Lincolnshire sausages in the clubhouse are amazing!!

Driving range is top quality too!

2.5 hours from the midlands if you go A46, A17 bypassing Newark - still just shorter than North Devon - just!

Will go back and stay and try Bracken too - fairways looked absolutey lush!

I organised all my trip through the fantastic Brian Kettleborough

What a wonderful course. Bunkering and heather is superb and always makes you think off the tee. Some of the best par 3's and 5's in the country too. Real risk/reward holes. Thoroughly enjoyed playing here.

Decent Second Course

This is the back up course to the Hotchkin. It is supposed to be designed by Donald Steel but it is difficult to pinpoint his involvement as the course lacks identity and has he ever been back? This is a perfectly fair second course but only that. There are no signs on any hole - not even a perfunctory wooden slab with a number on it - it cannot be that expensive. The greens are the clear standout on this course with a number of swales that make approach shots important to which side of the green you hit. If there was some money spent on the course it would be a decent track but at the moment it is definitely second fiddle to the Hotchkin.

Hotchkin is worth the trip

Played both on one of the hottest days of the year

Hotchkin is a brilliant heathland course, you can see why it features in so many top course listings. Tough but fair, you've got to avoid those bunkers to score well

Bracken is a parkland track, much more open but protected by tricky greens and clever hole designs, and still worth playing despite not quite being as memorable as Hotchkin.

Value for money is awesome, considering the fact that if hotchkin was in Surrey you'd be paying 2/3 times the cost

Absolutely Top Notch !

We played both courses for the ?133 package and wow what an experience. The Bracken is immaculate and the layout is really appealing for a decent golfer. Top quality fairways and greens and a really interesting course. We had fish and chips takeaway from the club house and then played the Hotchkin ... wow, this is a serious course and serious challenge. Bunkers everywhere, beautiful landscapes, hidden hazards which are sometimes behind other hazards and par 3's to make your eyes water. The Hotchkin could destroy some golfers and needs careful thought and an ability to be able to do good bunkers shots. Would certainly pay the same again as getting both courses for that price means they work out at ?65 each which for the quality is a good deal. Unfortunately we were hit by hail and a storm halfway through but it didn't stop us enjoying the reasons why its ranked in the world top 100 courses (54 i think).
