Was expecting more

As a member of another club it's always nice to try out other courses. We decided to give Wickham a try last week and really should not have bothered. Playing mostly off worn out matts, a temporary green even tho website stated no temps, fairways covered in moss and very poor signage between holes and when on tee most hole numbers missing. I will not be playing here again

Took advantage of one of the many offers available via the internet as a trail for a possible visit by my society. Despite confirming our tee time and cost by phoning direct they initially tried to charge £26 per person rather than £51 for a fourball. This was resolved but when we approached the first tee there was a scene of chaos. Apparently a block of tee times were double booked. Interesting the level of abuse the veteran members both male and female threw at each other and the young course steward - poor lad, probably on minimum wage and not in any way responsible. On the 9th I had my ball deliberately hit back at me on the tee from the fairway by a member. For a club obviously trying to gain new business they appear to have a serious problem with visitors.
The Course is a parkland course which has wide fairways - It is difficult to lose a ball. The front 9 and second nine circuit in parallel and this results in a number of very similar holes. A dull and unimaginative golf experience made considerably worse by the some members who behaved particularly poorly.
Best avoided.

I have played here five times this year, midweek after work. In terms of the course, it is what it is: a cheap(-ish), unimaginative, provincial golf course with no outstanding features whatsoever, defined by poorly maintained greens and undulating tee beds.

If you come to Wickham and don't expect anything too great, then I am sure you will not come away too disappointed. However, you will also not come away fulfilled and flush from a satisfying golf experience; the course is bland beyond belief and the greens are, not to put too fine a point on it, horrible. Owing to the featureless nature of most holes, the rough seems to have been left to grow wild, and just seems to swallow any ball which even trickles into it. Even in the first cut of rough it's very hard work indeed finding your ball.

I must also echo previous comments about some of the members as those I have encountered have certainly not left me with a positive impression. Deliberately slow play and deliberately high annoyance factor would appear to be part of the course etiquette at Wickham.

If you are after a cheap, quick round of twilight golf, then by all means come here and play, bearing in mind that for twelve Pounds English, you just about get what you pay for. There are worse courses out there, but not many. Otherwise, if you want a decent round, forget this place and get yourself to Meon Valley, Paulton's, Southampton City, Waterlooville, East Horton, or pretty much any other course on the South coast.

Not a good review to write!

I will make this short. - Good pro shop and clubhouse.
Golf Course -
Tees - Unkempt and uneven.
Fairways - Thankfully we were still playing winter rules. I know courses have suffered during the hot summer and the wet winter but these fairways were poor. Difficult to tell where the fairways finished and the rough started!
Bunkers - I have seen better also seen worse but a lot of stones.
Greens - Had been 'top dressed' so not altogether fair to assess them. But there were a lot of bare patches and i suspect they will not be good for a long time.
Signage - Have to say this was not terrific but luckily we were following some members. If you were not you could spend some time looking!!!
Crown golf must have a 'Course Guru' in its ranks. Suggest that he spends some time here as it needs all the help it can get.
I do enjoy my golf. I have to say for the first time this was not an enjoyable experience.
Sorry to the team at Wickham as I am sure they are doing their best or I hope they are

Ok

Played here a lot when just getting into golf and it's good for a round with mates, usd o be very good value for money. I find t plays very poorly in winter and can seem run down at times of the year.

Group of us (14) played on June 7th. On the whole the course was nice but that was about it.

Unable to use the bar or changing facilities as the place closed up at 7pm (We finished just after 7pm)

One of our group paid for a buggy which was taken back after 9 holes because by the time we finished they would be closed. (Refunded £10 out of £24).

As a group we were overcharged by £72 (The day we played the web-site stated £40 for 4-ball after 2pm, we were charged £64).

A few weeks after playing I received a courtesy e-mail from the sales manager to "ensure you enjoyed your round and to find out if there is anything we can do too improve?".

I replied stating that we weren't overly happy at being overcharged and the facilities after finishing were non-existent and surprisingly enough there has been no response.

This was the 3rd time the group have played an annual tournament here - pretty sure there will not be a 4th time.

Previously played and vowed not to return. Unfortunately played here again this weekend. Richard - the pro - has certainly not changed his attitude. Still rude and certainly not what a club needs to promote itself. The course is below average on maintenance. No marshall to chase up slow play so our round took five hours. As a result one struggles to stay in a rythum. Bar prices expensive - £12 for 2 beers and a gin/tonic. Change rooms shabby. A real pity as this club has good potential to improve.
