Played 20th May 2017, a couple of days after some fairly heavy rain. Puddles in a number of bunkers, and standing water on the odd fairway, but this didn't distract from a fairly decent track. We played Red then Blue, and both 9's seemed quite mature. Greens had some decent undulations to cope with, and were in better condition than I had expected, and overall were well groomed and quite quick. It wasn't always obvious what the best line from the tee was (should have bought a stroke saver, but I arrived too close to our tee time!!

Played with a couple of the lower handicap (3 and 8) players from my club, and both seemed to think the course was a suitable challenge - could do with a few signs pointing toward the next tee from the green, as we spent some time checking the small map on the card for where to go next.

Although there was water in some of the bunkers, there also seemed to be plenty of sand for once they dry out. We could not figure out the yardage poles at the side of the fairways, and there was nothing on the cards to help explain them. It seemed to be yellow posts at 200 yards and red posts at 150 yards (most clubs are 150 and 100 for these colours). But we also had to assume those were to the front of the greens, as we came up short a number of times with well struck shots.

I had been telling one of my playing partners that this was a course I would not mind playing my medals over; then, on the back 9 - the motor racing started at Silverstone, and we realised why the course was not busy! We couldn't hear ourselves think, and most conversations took place at shouting level. As I play most of my golf over a course that edges on to mainly farmland, the nose from the racing was a real negative point for me. Such a pity as I had been enjoying the experience, despite losing 3 balls in 11 holes (2 shanks and a duff into the water with my 2nd shot of the day) and I ended up just 1 over my 9 handicap.

I can't comment on the clubhouse or facilities, as I arrived late and had to leave straight after the game, but it certainly seemed large enough to have every facility you would need. As I was invited, I did not know the cost, but what I discovered online seemed to indicate ?20 during the week and ?25 at weekend, which I would be happy to pay to play here again, but I would need to know there was nothing on at Silverstone on any day I return to play here.

This was a ladies society event from our home club. Did play all three courses. and in order of difficulty I would have said the red, then blue then yellow. But statistically the starter said it was blue, red and yellow. The yellow was by far the most forgiving. The fairways and the greens in very good order. The clubhouse was very good, although a challenge getting in. The pro-shop given we were ladies was excellent. There was just a little confusion with tee times which caught us out i.e. earlier start than we had been led to understand. But all in all, including the hotel package a very good resort.

Immaculate Greens

I've played this course for 14 years, and whatever the weather, the greens are immaculate. The course generally is maintained to a very good standard, but the greens compare with any that I've played.

Home Course

I continue to play at Whittlebury Park and I'm thoroughly enjoying the experience. I would like to say it is the perfect place to visit and play, but of course it's not, but then I have never found that ideal, not in the UK or where ever I've traveled, Maui came close. However would I recommend it, yes I would, the courses are well maintained and a delight to play, the greens a challenge I look forward to every week, the bunkers, my nemesis. If you get the chance, stay at the hotel, enjoy some golf and relax in the Spa. Ignore the niggles.

It’s getting worse.

Course condition is letting this place down. Greens are horrendous, bobbling and don’t roll smoothly. Mixture of long and short grass with some bare patches. Tee boxes are really uneven, and the bunkers are a mixture of different sands so it’s pot luck what you get. Go play somewhere else in the county.

Only the second time I've played here, and it was so much better to play without the sound of cards racing at Silverstone. It was very peaceful, and we could take in the surroundings, which are very good. Greens had been worked on but were still quite quick. Lots of sand in the bunkers (some needed raking, but still OK). Tees were in decent shape, although one or two were a little soggy, which can make for feet slipping on the shot. We were well looked after in the clubhouse, although the full english was not hot, but filling enough. I'm not a drinker, but I thought £4.60 for a pint of Fosters was a bit steep - I assume they charge Hotel prices! Our organiser went to buy golf balls for prizes, and the Pro shop didn't have any in stock!!! They also didn't seem to have enough staff, as the Pro shop was closed at 10.30am, although it did open again later. Last time I played I said I could have done with a stroke-saver, as some holes we were just guessing where to go. I tried to buy one today, and they don't have them!! The really good news was that they seem to have socities well organised, playing different sets of the 9 hole courses. We never got held up, and never held anyone up following us. Really enjoyed the round today, and will be back at some stage.
