Whittlebury Hall Golf Course
The course is in great condition and as always, because there are 3 x 9-hole courses, although there was a society playing, there were no hold up's or slow playReviewer Rating

An Interesting challenge
A day after heavy rain the course was still a little damp, I'm told it was due to the area having a clay based soil. However it still played well, if with a reduced roll on the fairways, the greens however were beautiful, good ball roll and challenging undulations. Difficult to fault.Reviewer Rating

Home Course
I continue to play at Whittlebury Park and I'm thoroughly enjoying the experience. I would like to say it is the perfect place to visit and play, but of course it's not, but then I have never found that ideal, not in the UK or where ever I've traveled, Maui came close. However would I recommend it, yes I would, the courses are well maintained and a delight to play, the greens a challenge I look forward to every week, the bunkers, my nemesis. If you get the chance, stay at the hotel, enjoy some golf and relax in the Spa. Ignore the niggles.(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 98 Handicap: 25)

There must be another golf course in whittlebury...
Whilst there are some parts to this golf course that are good, I can only assume there is a secret hidden golf course somewhere in the village that all of these 4 and 5 star reviewers are playing because it’s certainly not the same course that I’m playing. The good elements to this course are the general layout of the 9s and the practice facilities. However that seems to be the only good things here. The course is so long everywhere you go that the rough not 5 yards from the green is unplayable for short delicate chips. Even the fairways are so long that the grass is up higher than my wheels of my golf trolley, no chance of crisp iron shots or wedges with any sort of back spin here. I’ve played other places where the odd member would take a dog out with them but I would be scared to here in case the poor bugger got lost in the semi cut.
The greens are equally bad as you may be better off bringing a hockey stick to putt anything over 20 feet.
Lastly the bar, if you are very lucky you may get served by someone with a smile and the slightest bit of conversation but don’t hold your breath. My advice would be if you want a nice cold drink, go out to the first hole on the red and have a 200 yard walk and fill up a glass from the pond in front of you.

Good for high handicappers
My first time at Whittlebury Park so these are first impressions only. Splitting the course into 3 9-hole routes is a bit unconventional and maybe caters best for hotel guests with limited time - you can get 3 groups all teeing off simultaneously. If you want to do 18 holes you need to mix and match, and the obvious downside is that someone may be teeing off at what is in effect your 10th hole, just when you arrive there. They appear to keep a check on this from the on-course office, but it's less relaxing than having a straight 18 holes in front of you. Because there are few natural hills and large trees are sparse, the course is designed with a lot of artificisl hazards, including narrow fairways and deepish bunkers at about driving distance, undulations in the fairways, many raised greens defended by bunker traps, and sloping greens with challenging pin positions. Personally I prefer courses where the hazards are more varied and natural. Having said that, the course is maintained in excellent condition, the greens are true if rather slow, and each hole is helpfully pictured showing distances from the tee positions.Reviewer Rating
