Should these course really be opened?

HAve played both the Spitfire and Hurricane in much drier weather and really I don't know how the Spitfire was open on this day. Interestingly, the higher cround was the most churned up and wet. Greens obviously receptive and one or two were very spongy. It would be unfair to mark this course down after the amount of rain this winter.

Was charged £38 for a green fee for the spitfire course. The fairway grass was as long as the second cut of rough at most average courses and easily lost a ball. The first cut of rough was so long it was practically unplayable! I understand if they are growing the course out for maintenance purposes but they should inform and reduce rates. It's a disgrace to pay that amount for a round on a course in that state. There are far better kept courses and cheaper locally.

Mud, mud, glorious mud, nothing quite like it for boiling the blood. I fail to understand how people can make positive comments about this golf club or its 2 courses. My second time playing here and this is a sub standard over priced facility. Poor tees, fairways and greens, there are many courses within a 25 mile radius of West Malling and this one comes bottom of the list in terms of quality. My Dad used to be a member here when there was one course and he loved it, clearly over the years something has gone wrong. Can't find a single reason to come back

Arguably the worst course I have ever played in my life (Spitfire). The first hole was reminiscent of a construction site and being on the fairway was more of a disadvantage than being on it. I wasn't surprised as the clubhouse looks similar to a prison. The greens were pathetically irregular and bobbly. The approach shots were fairly interesting on some occasions however the course condition let it down. Especially as we played in May, what should be the perfect time to play. The tee boxes looked like they shot with a high powered cannon before the day's play and everything had an incredibly cheap feel to it. I understand that they are probably working on a low budget. But I feel that they need to scrap one course and focus all capital on one course to make it playable. Enjoyed the last hole though! Score = 8 over

I had the pleasure of playing in the "Beat Bowel Cancer" Charity Golf Day last Wednesday. Sadly it was played over the "Spitfire" course at West Malling. From a distance, the course looks OK but upon closer inspection the tee boxes were uneven, the fairways muddy and the greens could best be described as "Treacle Puddings" as they were extremely slow and stodgy. We were in informed that "we must tee the ball up" when on the !st fairway, yet winter rules didn't apply. Next year I will send "BBC" my entrance fee and go and play a decent course.

Terrible course, 50% of the greens were on horrible condition. The 1st 2 tee were like a building site and when you take into account that within 20 mins drive you have Nizels, sweet woods, westerham and dale hill offering cheaper round it's a joke they charge that price.

Did not enjoy one but today other than having an ok round

I guess the reasonable review related to the Spitfire, because I played Hurricane (par 67, NOT 70 as stated in club's description) and was very disappointed. Don't bother!

Where do I start ? The Teeing grounds were uneven and the markers rarely pointed in the direction of the Fairway. The grass on the Fairways was every bit as long as the first cut of rough. The Greens had recently been tined ( I thought should only happen in the Spring and Autumn ) and were a great disappointment. As if all the above wasn\'t enough, the clubs website is a work of fiction. It describes the club as having \" two excellent par 70 courses, both over 6,000 yards\". The Hurricane course is currently a Par 67 and only 5653 yards long ! Aptly named after the famed wartime machines that dominated the skies over Kent ? I think the course names are an insult to those aircraft and the brave men who flew and serviced them. On a positive note, the Lady on reception and the blokes in the Pro Shop were great, a shame about WMGC.

Have been a member for 9 months now paid 600 pounds. For
A 7 day membership .great deal but you get what you pay for.
Course too busy.very wet .greens especially so footprint marks everywhere
Lots of mud lies on fairways .and worst of all a great chance of being hit by other peoples shots.
Especially on spitfire course .front nine..clubhouse and staff are all good just let down badly by course

Played Hurricane, which was the worst course I\'ve ever played for £30. The general state of the course was absolutely atrocious and the layout was awful, with some of the holes feeling like they were from a poorly maintained pitch and putt course. It was also not immediately apparent where the next tee was on a fair few holes. Fairly decent greens were the only redeeming feature. I\'m not sure where some of these reviews come from and the high rating of this course on this site (which encouraged me to book in the first place) are terribly misleading. Staff are friendly, though.

Tricky course, local knowledge paramount

I didn't like this course due to it's blind tee shots and tricky raised greens. Bunkeers were atrocious...
