Hilly and fairly tight front 9. Flatter second 9. Fair golf course (i.e. It looks very playable from most tees, but if you play like a fool (as i did today)), it will punish you. Greens very true and fast.

Approached by a long drive the club house is quite majestic around a court yard. You are made welcome by everyone. An undulating, challenging course and you always see greenstaff out maintaining/improving the courses. This club has a good aura about it. Catering is of a good quality and staff are friendly. If you are in the Cardiff area well worth a visit

Warm welcome from the pro on a very warm day!! Greens and fairways well kept. Hole 1 interesting, hole 18 signature. One of those courses that you really need to know where you are going! Front 9 quite hilly.

Picked a glorious summer day to visit this course, and with it so quiet, decided to take a buggy and potter around, saving these old limbs a bit! - Cripes, glad i did, the front nine are a bit "up and down!". The first has a delightfull downhill drive but once that has been safely achieved (!) it is all uphill to the green, which is cut into the bank. The 2nd is a delightful slightly uphill par 3 where club selection is most important, and then a lovely short downhill par 4 where a little caution is required with the fairway sloping off to the right. The 4th, a short par 4, leads back up to the highest part of the course, where the par 5 5th is along the top leads to the 6th, a huge drop hole where caution needs to be excercised, even clambering down the slope!. SI 1 follows and is another long climb from tee to green and more club is required to reach the green which is again set into the slope, and then to a lovely hole, the 468 yard par 4 (482 off whites!)...no sign of green, just a marker on the downhill hogs back fairway and where a good drive just bounds on and on. If you are on a first visit, it would be wise to go forward to the edge of the steep drop to have a look at the green way down below - care not to go through and into the hedge behind!
The 9th is a mid length par 3 after which you have to come back through to the 10th tee, a nice downhill dog leg right where the water in view is reachable - yep i know ! - typical hole to have the best drive of the day. The hard walks are now over, and the next 8 holes are much kinder to the old limbs! Each hole has its own characteristics and whilst one or two may seem up and down, there is not really a weak one amongst them. The 11th in fact is a dogleg left with a narrow fairway twixt many trees and this thence brings you in front of the clubhouse (castle) for the very first time and if the terrace is full of golfers, the drive from the white tees on the 12th could I imagine be very testing!!. The clubhouse is next seen in all its glory on the 18th for after a (hopefully) good drive, the green is down below with the backdrop of the large clubhouse, a nice welcoming site indeed!
All in all, a very friendly club, with Jason the pro being one of the most enthusiastic and likeable that i have met for some time, the members seemed friendly (!), the clubhouse is large and serves real ale, the course is a good test and the greens are as good as any I have played on this year, and i hear that the greenkeepers and staff have also done a wonderfull job this last couple of years.............recomended, but watch the climbs!

An excellent well designed parkland course. Challenging but fair front nine and great separation of individual holes. Back nine more forgiving but slightly longer. Great finishing hole in front of magnificent club house. Good facilities, eexcellen food and the view from the patio is outstanding.
Well worth a visit.
