Beautiful course, deceptive and traditional
A lovely traditional course, with undulating hills, quite tight fairways and very consistent greens. Virtually no water in play, and some deep bunkers. It is a bit up and down, but a buggy is unnecessary. The clubhouse is set within a large old country home, making it visually striking. Staff were nice, but I found the food uninspiring (Beef ready sliced for example.)Reviewer Rating

Well worth a visit
One of those outstanding courses that I always look forward to playing each year. A lot of money was spent on the course a few years ago, with some bunkers being filled in, new ones placed at more appropriate places, and loads of new turf around the greens. This is all now nicely bedded in, and the course looks the better for it.This was my first round here this year, in the first of their 2 senior opens. The second one is in October. The greens had been top-dressed, but the sand was mainly washed in, so the greens were reasonably quick. Bunkers were looking good, and certainly the two I found had plenty of sand in them, were nicely raked and played well.
Food was included in our price, but it's always been good here, although I don't believe they open as early as they used to, so it would be best to check if you want a meal before your game.
I'm already looking forward to playing again in October.

Perfectly kept greens and fairways
Long challenging and rewarding holes. Situated next to a 18 Century Hall classic parkland scenes . Perfectly kept greens and fairways. Practice area behind the hall small club shop but full of stock. Plenty of trees to drive over off the tee . Long cornering and steep fairways so a precise tee shot is key.Reviewer Rating

Fairly tough walk, only two par 3’s and two par 5’s with several 100 plus yard walks between tees. One might suggest a little rerouting could be considered..that’s really the only criticisms I could make, ranked about right on here.

Superb course
One of my all time favourite courses, and after much work being done last year, and the bunkers not being brought into play for their March Senior Open, it was an absolute pleasure to play their October Senior Open with the whole course looking great. All the new bunkers are in play and look like they were put in when the course was built - a tribute to the greenkeepers and staff who contributed to all the work carried out. Obviously it means my yardage book is now out of date, but that's a small price to pay for what is again an outstanding course. The layout is really good, although one of the players did comment that 14 par 4's and only 2 par 3's and 2 par 5's was a strange layout. We were only off the yellow tees, so not playing particularly long, and only 2 scores of 40 points, and the winning score of 43 points, so no-one "tore it up". The greens are always in good nick, although we could see that they had been spiked recently, but they had all but fully recovered - possibly a little slower than they usually are but still running very true. Loads of sand in the bunkers - a lot of which are in new positions since last year's work. The fairways showed little of the hot weather damage I've seen at other courses this summer, but we were playing 'preferred lies' on closely mown areas all the same. There was the usual Autumn problem with leaves, but that is to be expected in October. The food was good, and plenty of it, and as usual, we were very well looked after by the very friendly members and staff. Already booked for their next Senior Open in March 2019, and looking forward to it.Reviewer Rating
