Tricky shorter course. Many different styles of holes and some really beautiful views. Holes 16 and especially 17 were stunning, playing up to the Manor and then away.

3rd time of playing here & its a wonderful course with beautiful scenery. I say a Difficulty level of 8/10 for mid to high handicap as bunker are in carefully placed spots to catch you out, with blind greens from tee off & plenty of water. I play off 20 & got 34 stapleford points in a round of 92 (48/44). It was my 40th & 12 played ranging from 18-28 HC & they all thought it was in very good condition for time of year. We had the winter deal 18 + breakfast for £29.50 which was the best breakfast on a Golf course we ever had! I will be going back a few times a year for the challenge.

So disappointed

For a variety of reasons we've not played at the Welcombe for several years andt previously enjoyed playing there. Consequently we were looking forward to this.
Early alarm bells in the pro shop when a guy who had just finished his round reported a three ball going off the first tee with one bag between them. There wasn't much interest expressed by the staff member.
We saw them.on the 2nd tee and the reports were correct.
On the fifth tee we challenged them and they said they'd doe it before. When pointed out that they should have a set of clubs each they said they'd actually got two sets but only one bag. Apparently this made all the difference.
The pace of play was slow and definitely not helped by them
Fortunately they disappeared after 9 holes but the pace of play remained very slow. We spoke to several other casual visitors who were very disappointed at this.
On previous visits the course has been in great condition. On this occasion it was very poor. Greens were particular were very poor. Generally the course looked tired.
To be fair that had been recently been challenging weather conditions which may have contributed but a very near neighbouring course has no such issues and presumably faced similar issues.
We left feeling disappointed and doubt, like most of the other visitors we spoke to, that we'll return any time soon.

Unforgiving hill side course with tricky fast greens

The course is located on a hillside just outside Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire, with some providing panoramic views of the county. Mainly well spaced out holes some requiring a plan to navigate rather than hit and hope. We played three days in a row as a society of 12 with handicaps from 12 to 31 but each day only two players achieved 30 or more points.
On arrival the range dispenser ran out of balls just after 11:00 am so we could not warm up. The next day we found the majority of balls were Matt indicating considerable use. My bucket of 30 included two badly cracked and one severely chipped ball.
The course has numerous blind tee shots which in this dry weather meant any shot could bounce down hill and end up in thick rough making for slow play.
The bunkers are mainly grey grit which is severely compacted making sand splash shots impossible it was more a case of trying to chip of concrete. Some bunkers have weeds but on the day we left these were being hoed.
There is a lot of walking between holes with paths covered by matting which in places is folded, ripped and worn in to holes presenting trip hazard.
The pin positions on 10 and 16 were practically impossible, well putted balls racing into bunkers or in the case of the two tier 16 further back than when you started.
Arriving to see the ball dispenser hut roofing felt missing and torn does not give a good impression. A lot of tees have bare patches with new seed applied. Given the state of the bunkers and range balls we were left with the impression that the venue was tired and need investment.
Watch out for unpleasant members, getting out of my car an irate senior demanded to know why I had parked next to him (only shady bay!) then inferred that I was an inconsiderate Parker who didn't care about putting dinks in adjacent vehicles. My car was correctly parked my drivers door on first fix position leaving ample space from him. In 32 years as a golf club member I never been greeted in such an unpleasant way.

Woodworms Society special

For the past 2 years in August and September our small society group has discovered this undulating yet forgiving gem of a course with a variety of challenges, you must accuratley clear the ditches, avoid the water judge the blind holes and just admire the view from the 8th tee which is spectacular. The greens are well kept with a moderate speed and roll. The Pro shop, coffee bar and hotel staff are always very helpful and look forward to playing there again

Ok for the money

The layout is excellent and the general condition of the course was good, but the greens were dreadful, worst of the year for me sadly, I have played there before and so hopefully its only a temporary blip, as in the past they were good

One of the most visually stunning courses I've played. The view going up the 16th with the hotel in the background and the tee shot on 17 are probably the best back to back holes in Warwickshire. The par 3's are playable too. I did struggle but thats for lack of course knowledge. Very much recommended.

Played 17/05/2014, excellent day. Fairways and greens in excellent condition, albeit greens were rather slow considering decent weather, needed a cut! Wonderful views, great layout, friendly pro-shop and bar staff. Will definitely return, excellent facilities, good range. Would recommend a buggy for those who struggle; pathways long but very well maintained. Not a bad hole on the course. THANK-YOU.

Played here the first time whilst on a New Year's break. Excellent course in good condition despite the recent heavy rain. Greens appeared to be a bit mossy in places, but they were a good pace and very true. Rest of the course was a good challenge with a nice mix of holes, the 8th being a particular standout with a significantly elevated tee and water in front of the green. Helpful pro shop and I would definitely play again if in the area.

Great course

Course is great, greens and fairways in lovely condition, with some challenging well laid out holes. Only couple of things that let the course down on the day when we were there was the tee boxes which were cut like the rough and in rather poor condition. And the rough seemed to eat golf balls, anything slightly in the rough and the ball is gone lol.

Lovely layout, buggy if you struggle to walk, good price but well used

I thought this a flat ie not elevated course - till I go there! Surprisingly elevated but walkable. Lay out is great but it is a well used course as it's part of Hotel. Challenging but only par 70 off whites. We did feel rushed as there were some very fast players behind us but once we let them through all good. Great value for money.
