very poor practice balls/matts, no tokens available for second day.2 five hour plus rounds.Poor tees and greens.Fencing around the clubhouse falling down , gate hanging off its hinges. No soap in the toilets both days. When we left a painter was filling over cracks in a leaking ceiling in the bar ,a good metaphor for the venue regarding painting over the cracks without addressing the issues. We have played the Welcombe many times over the years but will not be returning, its a venue in decline.Reviewer Rating

Awful experience. Take plenty of fluids. It’s like a trek up a mountain. Tees in rough condition. No bar. No half house. Not enjoyable in the slightest.Reviewer Rating

Testing golf course
Some good golfing holes in a lovely part of tourist Britain. Unfortunately, really was disappointed with the condition of the course. Fairways were in need of real grooming and the bunkers had different types of sand from course dark pebbly tough wet gritty concrete type sand to normal golden beach sand which spoilt my game. My fault for getting in the bunkers in the first place. An extremely tasty lunch English breakfast will be highly recommended. Greens were fair to be honest. The course called good planning to get around ie. laying up then chipping across or playing between trees and chipping onto greens whilst avoiding bunkers.(Round played: Aug 2018 - Score: 103 Handicap: 16.5)

So disappointed
For a variety of reasons we've not played at the Welcombe for several years andt previously enjoyed playing there. Consequently we were looking forward to this.Early alarm bells in the pro shop when a guy who had just finished his round reported a three ball going off the first tee with one bag between them. There wasn't much interest expressed by the staff member.
We saw them.on the 2nd tee and the reports were correct.
On the fifth tee we challenged them and they said they'd doe it before. When pointed out that they should have a set of clubs each they said they'd actually got two sets but only one bag. Apparently this made all the difference.
The pace of play was slow and definitely not helped by them
Fortunately they disappeared after 9 holes but the pace of play remained very slow. We spoke to several other casual visitors who were very disappointed at this.
On previous visits the course has been in great condition. On this occasion it was very poor. Greens were particular were very poor. Generally the course looked tired.
To be fair that had been recently been challenging weather conditions which may have contributed but a very near neighbouring course has no such issues and presumably faced similar issues.
We left feeling disappointed and doubt, like most of the other visitors we spoke to, that we'll return any time soon.

Unforgiving hill side course with tricky fast greens
The course is located on a hillside just outside Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire, with some providing panoramic views of the county. Mainly well spaced out holes some requiring a plan to navigate rather than hit and hope. We played three days in a row as a society of 12 with handicaps from 12 to 31 but each day only two players achieved 30 or more points. On arrival the range dispenser ran out of balls just after 11:00 am so we could not warm up. The next day we found the majority of balls were Matt indicating considerable use. My bucket of 30 included two badly cracked and one severely chipped ball.
The course has numerous blind tee shots which in this dry weather meant any shot could bounce down hill and end up in thick rough making for slow play.
The bunkers are mainly grey grit which is severely compacted making sand splash shots impossible it was more a case of trying to chip of concrete. Some bunkers have weeds but on the day we left these were being hoed.
There is a lot of walking between holes with paths covered by matting which in places is folded, ripped and worn in to holes presenting trip hazard.
The pin positions on 10 and 16 were practically impossible, well putted balls racing into bunkers or in the case of the two tier 16 further back than when you started.
Arriving to see the ball dispenser hut roofing felt missing and torn does not give a good impression. A lot of tees have bare patches with new seed applied. Given the state of the bunkers and range balls we were left with the impression that the venue was tired and need investment.
Watch out for unpleasant members, getting out of my car an irate senior demanded to know why I had parked next to him (only shady bay!) then inferred that I was an inconsiderate Parker who didn't care about putting dinks in adjacent vehicles. My car was correctly parked my drivers door on first fix position leaving ample space from him. In 32 years as a golf club member I never been greeted in such an unpleasant way.

Shame about the greens
Lovely day for a round and most of the course looked superb however all the greens were being treated and either heavily sanded or left very damp which was a real shame considering we had no prior warning of this before making our booking.Reviewer Rating

Great course ruined by idiot golfers
The welcombe is a great golf course, and we were delighted to play here with a great price of ?16. Unfortunately though, the pace of play was incredibly slow. We played on a Friday afternoon and tee?d off at 3:00. There was a society of 8 in front of us, who we caught up with on about the 7th hole. Although I am a young golfer, I am keen for etiquette to be kept to, and these guys looked scruffy and were climbing all over their buggies. They were also of a fairly poor standard of golf, which is fine, but it made our round much longer. On the par 3 11th, th group in front waved us to play up, we did and we both hit the green. When we arrived to the green, they finished their hole before letting us play. We could have been finished and out of their way quickly. It was very strange. On the next hole, they did let us through which was great, however, they were talking as we tee?d off, one of their phones rang, just not golf. Fortunately we were ahead of these guys now. However, we were now behind their other group. These guys were worse. They had an opportunity to let us play through on the par 3 13th. One of the players hit the bushes and took a number of shots to get to the green, a good opportunity to let us through. We waited on the tee box for about 15 minutes. As we finally got on to the green, the 4-ball behind had caught up, and were now waiting for us. An indication of how slow the play was. We waited for about 10 minutes per shot. We were not let through at any point. I raised my arms to gesture to let us play Through. The group in front waved at me, and then gave a not so pleasant hand gesture. Unfortunately, my golf game suffered as a result of these guys in front (or that's my excuse anyway).Of course, this is not the golf courses fault. Nothing bad to say about the condition of the course, or the staff in the clubhouse. Just unfortunate that our game was ruined by a group of idiots.

Very very wet April 2018
PlayMoreGolf trip 6pts per person £24.00? very much overpriced for condition. open but not ideal, fairways mowed and muddy in places, 2nd time I've played the course and yet to see one decent putting surface.I like the layout and it's a fairly decent fast walk around the course for a hotel, but unless in good condition it's £15 max at present. Honestly, I would stay away until June and improved weather and standards.
I love the layout it's just feels unloved or lacking the investment?

Xmas work society
Not the longest of courses, but as we all know it doesn't have to be long to make it enjoyable or taxing. My first time playing here and I can say I enjoyed it. The lower holes near the road were a bit saturated from recent rain (carry only) but otherwise the fairways were pretty dry. I think the course in summer would play short, I?ll have to try it out then.Reviewer Rating

Greens in bad shape, very patchy and bumpy
First impressions is great setup, you arrive at the clubhouse and find that coffee is £3 OK it's a hotel and a chain but over the top for us golfers sadly. maybe the corporate guys are happy paying that much.Anyway, to the golf the clubhouse is nice and practice facilities #Range excellent with good chipping area along side with bunker. staff in the pro shop very helpful and welcoming :-) 4 PlayMore.Golf points for a game Friday morning at 8.56am bargain £12. rate for the day was £18.75.
Course layout is excellent and keeps you fit, up and down hills all day :-) sadly the green look like they need some help after the summers toll. very patchy and pretty bumpy and that's all 18 holes. some great holes along the way.
Last negative the shoe cleaner, trolley blower has been out of order for ages (Member told us)
good cheap visit for a Friday friendly. 100% play there again, hoping the greens look a bit more healthy.
