I played this golf club with a golfing society. We were effectively charged £25 per person for the golf (on a week day). I was disappointed with this price, considering that there had been work done recently on the greens and they were covered in sand and bobbly. Indeed, there was more sand on the greens than some of the bunkers! Plenty of divots left unrepaired. The plus point about the course is the scenery - beautiful in places, on the banks of the River Wear. Also, the bridges over some ravines are very well made. A major downside is the amount of blind shots, particularly the last hole. The 16th hole - bit of a farce because it is not clear which green you are shooting for. I would say there are about six good holes on the course. An average course redeemed by the scenery. There are courses in the area in as good condition, at a better price (such as Washington, Hartlepool and Seaton Carew). Bar and catering staff were friendly, downstairs staff not so (bit defensive and smug). Not worth any more than £15 per round. If you have to play it, take the opportunity in an open competition, not rip off prices.

the course was still playing winter tee's in march, the greens were covered in sand, and you were not allowed to play your ball off the fairway's. we had to place it in the semi rough, considering we have not had any really bad weather lately the fairway's were quite dry, the main point was it was like playing a round with BIG BROTHER the members watched your every move and were very quick to let you no that you had done something they did not like

Course Good

The course was very good given the et recent weather. I would suggest the reception on offer could have been better. I had rung three times prior to playing to ensure we arrived ahead of a visiting party and we knew we had to arrive in order to get out on the course. We were welcomed by what seemed a rather gruff, 'Have you phoned as we are busy'. Not an ideal start. That said the course was lovely, some excellent holes and the hospitality post round in the bar was also good.

Winter golf - well worth a visit

Played Wearside in March the course was excellent (greens had been top dressed) and very enjoyable. Course layout is very good we played off the whites and some of the par fours were good fours. Well worth visit

A Fit and Proper Test

At first glance you would not think this was up to much tucked away on a hillside next to Penshaw monument but once past the par 3 opener the course comes into it's own. A really good variety of holes with top class greens and an enjoyable but fair test to be had for all abilities.

Golfshake Team ReviewWearside Golf Club is a must play if you're in the area. It is handily close the City centre but far enough away to offer a peaceful round of parkland golf. There is a great variety of holes, and arguably features some of the best par 3's in the region. The bar has recently been renovated and is now very modern and is also a great place to relax before and after your round.

(Round played: Jun 2016 - Score: 102 Handicap: 26.6)
The course was maintained to a high standard with the greens looking in very good condition. There had been a period of rain in the days before hand and there was no evidence of water retention on the course. I've paid higher green fees at other clubs that have not been of the standard I found at Wearside today.
