Excellent course
Thorndon is a lovely course in a beautiful setting with no disappointing holes, and surely the best course in Essex. The fairways have taken a beating over the dry summer and preferred lies would not have been inappropriate on some. The greens were good. Played during COVID restrictions, the clubhouse was OOB and an interview meeting closed the drinks service by the time we got in.Reviewer Rating

Always nice to get a round over at thorndon despite the downpour. conditions always great, greens running so true

The golfers????????
Played this course during the development stage last year and it was abysmal, however a group of three of us returned this year to play again, the course is in good condition and the layout good though I wouldn’t say it’s worth the money they charge compared to other also good courses in the area, the club house is the joke of the place, the decor looks like it hasn’t changed from the seventies, and for three guys that run their own businesses that like to meet up and play golf we were told no mobile phones or electronic devices in the club house, only on the golf course, (but also please avoid slow play at all times would be on a sign somewhere I would imagine!) anyway my review would be good course massively over charged, with an out of date clubhouse with no atmosphere and wouldn’t returnReviewer Rating

The once great course
I had been wanting to play Thorndon Park golf club for a number of years and after having recently played it I wish I hadn't bothered, the greens were abysmal, the fairways atrocious and they are carrying out major works on the course. probably the most over rated course I have ever played and whoever does these course ratings you see in some of the magazines etc. obviously aren't playing them.(Round played: Aug 2018 - Score: 89 Handicap: 13.4)

Great course condition for this time of year, particularly the greens. Disappointing to be told to put my phone away in the clubhouse when I was sitting by myself sending a few emails.

Pleasure to play here, lots of standing water due to snow and heavy rain. But greens exceptional for time of year.

We played this course with our society. It's always been a favourite. Not overly long but with interesting holes. The only downside was that some of the bunkers didn't have much sand and were rock hard.

Fantastic find
Finally played this course which is very close. Has been highly praised by friends, and I can see why. Lovely place to play, and friendly off course. Decent facilities in clubhouse but shame is no longer in the grand house next door ! VFM with the county card.Reviewer Rating

Very fast greens, bunkers disappointing - hard compacted sand, but very enjoyable course to play. Shame they do not produce a stroke saver booklet which would really help visiting players.

The course was in excellent condition for the time of year, with the greens still fast and true. Unfortunately had some heavy rain in the morning and whilst fairways and greens had drained before playing, several bunkers were waterlogged. Nevertheless a great day and made to feel welcome in the clubhouse.
