WET

Played Friday for first time in about a year, course was very wet and probably should have been closed, enjoyable day but was a little put out by price of drinks, £4-60 for Guinness rather expensive when other clubs we play is usually £4 or less, food was very good but one of the staff a little preoccupied and rude when asked to top up drink.

Our regular course

Ground very hard including greens. Rough very long, Need to stay on fairways to set a good score. Open course with wide spaces. Restaurant could do with more snack type foods but meals are appetising, but generally the premises are kept in an excellent condition. Has an excellent driving range and par three course.

Played a round towards the start of the season, greens were a little tired after the winter but generally good.

The course hasn't really changed much since my last review (Feb 2016). Nice course will flatter the inconstant golfer like me. When the green fees are around £15 it is bargain but you have to play late in the afternoon to get that. There are more exciting courses with better greens within an hour drive..

Driving range is more expensive than Bristol GC

Very similar as my last review in February 2016.. However the greens were as hard as hell which meant landing on the greens and getting the ball near the pin was impossible.

Nice course but lacks character on some holes compared to other courses in the area. I feel the twilight rate is reasonable but now you cannot get a full round in I doubt I will play here again until late spring on the main "Marlwood" course as I don't consider a round here to be worth more than £15 a round..

Millionaires golf on a quiet sunny Sunday evening yielded a good result. Well stocked pro shop and warm welcome on arrival. Not the greatest test but an enjoyable track with plenty of variety, water and good greens.

I have previously reviewed this course in February 2016 and the course hasn't really change much. The fairways are in good condition and ground is now firm allowing your drives to go further. The greens are cut well but require love from the members and guest to repair their pitch marks, some greens looked like the surface of the moon on entry. The club could fix this by hiring some kids from the local secondary school and paying them in free golf or driving range balls.

(Round played: Feb 2016 - Score: 63 Handicap: 17.3)

Thornbury Par 3 course is a lovely gentle round of golf; suitable for beginner, the elderly, young and those looking for a short game. Some of the holes can feel rather samey being between 100-120 yards. However the front and back 9 holes do have a different “feel” with most of the back 9 being situated at the bottom of the hill. The 12th hole has one of my favourite holes locally shooting down hill. It is a pity the designers didn’t use this hill a little more in their course design.

I consider this course to be quite poor value for money being nearly £12, when locally you can get a full course for £10 and this course does receive half the attention the Marlwood course receive from the green keepers (I used to work there). The course could do with a few ball cleaners situated near the tee and a couple of bunkers were without a rakes. On the plus side I was expecting the course to be in much worse condition in late February than what it was considering the last couple of months of rain but it was rather nice. However despite the greens being slightly mossy they did run very well and were predictable with good pace. This is a course I enjoy playing a couple of times a year as I find it fine tunes my short irons and wedges off the tee.
