Heartbreaking
Having been a Captain in this club’s heyday it was so sad & heart breaking to see the course so badly neglected and a clubhouse with zero atmosphere on a Friday afternoon. The greens looked like they were cut with a basic spear & Jackson lawn mower. No distinguishing fairway and light rough areas. Bunkers just impacted gravelly texture. Staffing levels bare skeleton on course & clubhouse.Reviewer Rating

The Wiltshire hotel,golf and country club
The hotel facilities were ok but some rooms couldn't get hot water which after playing golf is vital with some of our party had to use the firmness centre for a shower. The golf course conditions were the worst our party have experienced with conditions caused by poor maintenance the excuse being the lack of green staff, tee boxes not mowed or tee positions not moved, fairways not mown so you got no run on the ball and greens suffering from disease with bare patches in places, overall a very very poor golfing experience and would recommend giving this venue a 0 out of 10.Reviewer Rating

Golf weekend
Reading some of the previous reviews, we were a bit concerned that the course would be terrible, and whilst it’s not The Belfry, you get what you pay for. A couple of greens had dodgy patches, but in the main the course was in great condition, even holding up against the storm we had. Very challenging, the 17th is a great hole, if you can’t hit your tee shot more than 250, you’ll have to lay up! Hotel was fine. Bar and restaurant were nice and the staff were great. So sad to write that the course is still not really playable because it is so wet underfoot. Every time hope of drying out properly comes, then does the next lot of rain. A real dry spell is needed. We played here today after a gap of some two years when the course was in much better condition. Today it should not have been open as there was surface water on all the fairways although the greens were ok. Also the grass has been left long on both the tees and the fairways making play extremely difficult. I believe that there are new owners and the hotel shows signs of wear and tear also facilities have been affected with kitchen closed this morning. We will not play here again.

The course was in good condition.
Some of the fairways were riddled with land drainage line = not good and unsightly.

The course in very good condition, easy signage getting you around. The greens are tricky with an excellent putting surface. Water hazards come into play on 4 holes. The Garden Course is worth playing before taking on The Lakes course which is a more difficult test of golf.

Amazing !! Played Wiltshire Golf Course 3 years ago Said I would NOT go back as course in awful unkept state with Greens looking like the surface of the moon , a friend of mine stayed their recently WoW Fantastic Difference Greens in Great Condition Course massive improvement will definitely go back and play again Well Done The New Owners .

We have all come back from a weekend away with 32 golfers ,of various handicaps .The hotel was excellent and food .the course was very challenging with some excellent holes .unfortunately most of greens were a disgrace full of holes .they were so hard to putt on your ball looked like it had a jelly bean in it jumping up and down on its way to the hole .we won't be returning untill they sort the greens out .

Hardly a golf course no country club!
Back in its heyday this was a wonderful venue with an interesting and feature filled design. I took 14 society members for 2 nights/3 rounds in September 2025. Big mistake.The hotel has recently been used for asylum seekers and has suffered accordingly. Dirty corridors with stained carpets. Locked fire escapes. Not even a sandwich available at lunchtime. Evening meals were likely microwaved ready meals. Unqualified staff covering bar and reception, no golfing staff at all.The course- has obviously been left to deteriorate for a long time. Horizontal slitting for drainage has not been grit filled, so have now dried out to create chasms so wide that balls were disappearing down them on several fairways. Greens (that's a joke- more browns) and tees atrocious with no grass, bird and machine damage on greens was unbelievable. The agent who organized the trip for us is still chasing the venue for compensation, some hope, the owner/management obviously do not care. Leave this venue alone for at least a couple of years to see if it has had the time and investment it needs to recover. And hopefully new management. DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF AS WE WERE!

A golf course that needs a bit of T.L.C.
Needs A bit of T.L.C.The course is well spread out,all holes are a challenge.
Five par 5s, Nine par 4s, Four par 3s.
A course built around lakes ( hidden ) bunkers which are a bit to be desired.
But overall lovely views and only 20 minutes down the road.

Very poorly maintained course
The fairways on the 9 hole were decent, but every other aspect of the course was atrocious. Greens with huge scars in them and not a lot of grass. Putting was a total lottery where the ball may bobble. These clearly hadn't been maintained in months. No sand in the bunkers, just stones. Tee box's were in a poor state too. At £25 for 9 holes per person this is an absolute joke. I have played better municipal course for half the price. Spoke with the staff after walking off the course to ask for a refund and they refused - they were not interested in any kind of compensation.We checked out the greens in the 18 hole course and they were in an equally poor state. And absolute shambles of a course.

Awful
Created an account just to review course.Unplayable, whole place feels abandoned. Ridiculously wet, fairways like heavy rough, rough like a swamp.
Played a few holes but losing balls in the middle of the fairway consistently.
Groundskeeping staff at least have done their best with the greens but charging £40 a round here is ridiculous.
Probably could be a great course but would require investment and care.
Would rate a 0 if possible

Highly unsatisfactory
Lets start with arrival. No good sign posting to show you where you had to enter reception (they were using a different entrance on this day). Greeted by one bloke who is running the golf with no pro shop (who by the way had no idea about golf), and also running the bar area with 10-12 people already waiting for a coffee. 25 mins later we could finally move to the first tee. THE COURSE HAS TO BE CLOSED. We pre paid, and we were told after booking, that the course is extremely wet so if we change our mind we can re book for another day. Balls getting plugged on every shot, and i mean every shot. And this wasn't after any particularly heavy rain. 4 holes played we had had enough and asked for our money back because we didn't know it would be anywhere near this bad. Just to find out NO REFUNDS. No wonder they don't close the course because they already have your money. We had to drive over an hour to play and now have to come back and play that clown course again at a later date. Maybe put it on your website that the course is unplayable before you take peoples non-refundable money. Added note: The members hate it. They have gone from 350 members to 40 in 3 years. Says it all. Don't play here. £25 down the drain.Some positives:
Greens were actually very good, but that is clutching at straws due to the fact everything else was bad on the day.
Definitely has the makings of a good course but that's just because of the greens. Stones in bunkers and again, no sign posts to show where the next tee is.

The course is in as good a condition now than it has been for a few years. The greenskeepers have done a fantastic job and it's a pleasure to play.Its a shame more people aren't playing the course, wish the management would get up to speed with how to run the club

Good but could be great.
I liked this course. It has interesting and varied holes, with some tricky greens set in the very pleasant Wiltshire countryside, and it's a good challenge for a recreational mid handicapper like me. The only negative is that it could do with some care and attention, especially the greens, which were not in great condition. The clubhouse has a large bar/dining area and there are good changing facilities, so no complaints there. I understand it has recently come under new ownership, so I would urge the new management to get the course into top condition because if you do, you'll have a suberb golfing venue.Reviewer Rating

Course is in really condition and for the price it’s a brilliant course to play or be a member at. Greens were in good condition and bunkers were nice and soft. Course is very flat which I prefer and you can easily walk.
