What a day!

A cracking day of golf. The course was playing long and the rough was being grown up due to the British Masters in a few weeks time. Had the privilege of watching Dan Walker, one of my playing partners, hit the most amazing 2 iron, 227 over water to within 10 feet

Tough day at the office

3 courses, good condition overall. Course was put in a way that it caters to more people. Prepare yourself for a long day.

Brabazon great, Derby not great

I went for the weekend and played the Derby for the first time and the Brabazon for the 7th time and as always the Brabazon delivered in terms of hole layouts, the famous holes and general upkeep was ok but bordering on being a bit too soft and wet which is understandable due to the recent weather. The Derby as like playing one of my local cheapy courses, not looked after, not cut recently, no ball washers, lack of OOB markers where there was OOB. I would rather play a different local course than pay for The Derby, its almost as if the greenkeepers don't walk over to that course as its not in their job description to look after that one. Pity as it could be a good option for those who don't want to afford the Brab or PGA National. Facilities at the golf shop, golf bar and hotel excellent as always even if the prices are eye wateringly high for everything. I think there are better weekend away options for the money but the Belfry holds on to golfers emotional attachments with the Ryder Cup links, the celebrity plaques and pictures all around plus the fantastic off course facilities. Even though it costs an arm and a leg, I am sure I will go back again sometime sigh !

As enjoyable as the PGA and the Brabazon

I played the Derby Parkland course today as very impressed. It's naturally not as impressive as the two main courses, but it's a cracking course. The course is no less looked after than the main courses, it takes a little water but the greens and fairways were great. There is frequent free transport there and back from the Pro-Shop.

PGA National course day2 of trip. Not a patch on the Brabazon. Greens and fairways in really good condition however bunkers and overall layout let it down (especially at the price). Worth a look if you can get a special rate

Not for the faint hearted

Beautiful, well kept setting, 3 different courses to choose from. The two courses I played, The Derby and the PGA both felt luxurious. Virtually litter free, spongy tees and bowling green greens, it was a pleasure to play. The Derby was the less challenging of the two, but challenging enough (perhaps too much so) for me with a 43 handicap. The PGA course was particularly difficult, if you left the fairway your ball was most likely lost in the rough. There is no forgiveness on this course.

Better than expected

The "second" course at The Belfry but by no means a poor relation. Conditioning was superb throughout and although a few balls were lost you needed to be fairly wide to reach the longest grass. A really good test, esoecially with the wind and rain on such an open layout. Different to Brabazon but no bad thing if you enjoy a challenge.

Brabazon yes, PGA no

A weekend away with the boys to play the UK's premier golf venue. I had played it before many times, but only ever in winter conditions so playing it in the summer was a treat. The Brabazon at an eye watering ?160 a round was in amazing condition and was an absolute pleasure to play. One day I will get on the green in one on the 10th ! On the second day we played the PGA billed at ?85 ... this course is just good which is a pity as I have heard since that the Derby course is a better experience that the PGA which has really unforgiving rough and is a tad boring. The hotel and food experience at the Belfry is always good, but you pay a lot for it. I think I will go back to only playing here when there is a really good deal on, otherwise from a cost point of view it doesn't compete with other venues like Rockliffe Hall and Slaley Hall.

Fantastic condition but not as good as I hoped

The brabazon is known for its 10th and 18th and they lived up to their reputation but the rest of the layout was very much like a parkland course with big bunkers and some water . May be it was my game, as I left that behind, but I am not sure i would be rushing back to play it. Would prefer the PGA myself

Disappointing

We booked this the night before over a few beers and prior to making our minds up I saw The Derby described as "a good muni course at best" which we ignored but transpired to be spot on. Great condition but a hugely uninspiring course. Facilities obviously fantastic, staff also fantastic.
