This is the 2nd Mackenzie course I have played, the first being Oakdale (Harrogate). in both cases the layout has left me disappointed - sadly lacking compared with a Colt designed course ! This one starts off with a number of quirky holes until you reach the flat plateau on which most of the holes are located -these are all very "samey" and frankly lacking in architectural imagination. The last few holes bring an old quarry into play which you have to cross. The 17th fairway has a 45 degree slope with bale out area which is a little more level !

In one word - a disappointing layout, unless you enjoy quirkiness !

Superb views from the course and well furnished clubhouse

Played April 2015 on a sunny and windy day. Course was great. I guess it would be classified as a heathland course. Though not a long course, it was still punishing if you were offline enough to find the gorse bushes, and tricky out of the heather. Bunkers were always in play as well, so it was a decent challenge for our group of 12-28 handicaps. Clubhouse was dated but the staff were very friendly, and the club pro was very helpful and sociable. At £40 per head this course was worth it. We will play this course again.

Good course and clubhouse. Greens not as good as Dawlish Warren though.

Played on last lovely day of October 2011 with temps at 25c. The course was dry and even though it had been warm for a few days i would expect better condition, it felt a little rough around the edges.
The greens condition, out of several courses i have played in Devon are not as good as Churston, Dainton or Dartmouth for condition but slopes, burrows and challanging were great and true.
Pro shop was well stocked and friendly.
Its a challanging course and dont be put off by a shorter than usual length, if you stray too far off each fairway the heather and gorse will get you. If you play some of the Par 5's as Par 4's then you really do have a challange.

Played April 2009 on a warm spring morning. The Pro could not be more helpful. We paid £22.50 for the round which include a a 1 course lunch. The course was great, with many interesting holes. Great views well worth playing. Club house very friendly with enjoyable food.
