Good course, well worth a visit

Quite a hilly course, built on the side of the slopes from the clubhouse down to the canal. View from the clubhouse is therefore quite spectacular. I play this course every year about end of June/early July, and it is always in very good condition.

It was a very dry Summer in 2019 when I last played it before this Summer, and the course was looking rather brown, as were most courses that year. A fair amount of rain this year, and with the tees and greens benefitting from sprinklers, the course was in superb condition. Bunkers seemed to be good (I managed to avoid them all this year). Some quite tricky greens about.

WHS course rating from the yellow tees is 127, so a good test, especially it it's windy as it can be. Food and drink is decently priced bearing in mind how close the course is to central London, and everyone seemed quite friendly, although the fact that our 'society organiser' is a recent Past Captain probably helps.

Whilst there are a couple of water fountains around the course (at 5th and 15th tees) - take plenty of drink, as the course being hilly means you use more fluids than usual.

Lovely course - already looking forward to next year.

Well worth a visit

Classic London parkland course, that is well worth a visit, no 2 holes are the same. On the side of Horsenden Hill so you have inclines and interest that you don't get on some flatter courses nearby. You are unlikely to lose a ball but to score well you have to be on top of your game - a tribute to the Harry Colt design.
Friendly staff and great views over West London from the sun kissed terrace from which to enjoy a beer and the good value catering.

Terrific course - 10 out of 10

We were very fortunate recently to be able to play at Sudbury GC at quite short notice. Myself and my pairs partner had never played here before, when we arrived we could not have been given a more friendly and warm welcome by the members who were sitting on the lovely terrace enjoying the sunshine after their round. What a stunning view from the terrace it was too. The course was in beautiful condition with so many interesting holes. I could honestly say, every hole had something interesting or challenging about it. Also, the greens were fast and with some clever challenges about them. We thoroughly enjoyed our round and had a very welcome cool drink on the terrace to enjoy the view. The staff and members all made us feel very welcome and the food was delicious and very good value. Sudbury golf course is an absolute joy to play. My pairs partner and I both look forward to bringing our husbands back here for a round as we're sure they will thoroughly enjoy it. Can't wait to come back again.

You would not know you were on the outskirts of London playing this course. It is stunning. The views from the patio overlooking the course are amazing. Greens are great, easily on a par with Ealing, if not better. Lots of new sand put in the bunkers and the trees are maturing all the time. Everyone one was very friendly and welcoming especially the two female bar staff. Service with a smile. Great value for money, would highly recommend.

Top Class 5*

I can't rate this place highly enough!\We played on 5th June and will forever remember our day at Sudbury Golf course. We tee'd off just after midday and completed our round in about 4 hours. The course was in brilliant condition with fast true greens. No two holes were the same with a good mix of long and short uphill/downhill. My favourite was the short 18th hitting uphill to the club house, a good iron shot off the tee and you can finish your round with a birdie.\The food and service was top quality and very reasonably priced. \The staff and members were very friendly and welcoming ...I can't wait to go back!

Good course

A very well maintained course, lacks all the facilities and the car park is small, you don't want to go down into the overflow. But the course itself makes up for what it lacks in other areas.

I have played Sudbury numerous times over the last thirty years - I am not a member (unlike John Godwin below who obviously is).
Its an average course and has some good holes, 2, 9 and 17 but also some poor ones, 6,8,12 and 14.
To say it is the best in West London is just biased - I prefer Ealing, West Middx and Fulwell,

I have to agree with other reviews... course in fantastic condition... Very fast true greens and well kept fairways and tees. The rough isn\'t too punishing but this course is still a test. The best bit has to be the clubhouse and patio that overlooks the course... really scenic. I also had a chance to chat a little with one of the barmaids who was very friendly and helpful. I talked to her and a fellow member who told me that they would be doing work on 9 of the 18 greens in the following week so these 9 would be out of commission but this meant that the greens were playable (and in great nick) for the rest of the year. Given the condition of the greens this is a great trade off. The member I briefly talked to even waved me off as I was waiting at the (conveniently located) bus stop outside the clubhouse so there is no snobbery here. In summary, great course, great clubhouse, fantastic views, lovely people, my new go-to golf course.

I play this course only once each year (late June or early July), and it is invariably in very good condition. 2013 is no exception, but one drawback is they have used a massive amount of fertiliser around the course, which consequently smells terrible!

Despite this, which I am sure will eventually wash into the ground and improve the bare patches which have been treated; the course was still excellent, and even the biunkers have been given a top up, so that bunker shots are less of the lottery they were in previous years. Lets face it though we would all rather stay out of them!

Greens were running true and were pretty quick, although there are always some people who moan they are TOO quick or TOO slow - these are the people who would find something to complain about if they were playing on a supermodel's bedspread!

All in all; a course which I look forward to playing every year, and we already have a date booked for July 2014.

ExCAP Open Day

I have been organising an annual golf day at Sudbury for coming on 30 years, simply because the club always extend a warm welcome, the course is always in excellent condition, and the food always first class - and all at a sensible cost. Excellent setting and facilities - what more could you ask for. I would definitely recommend Sudbury to anyone wanting either just a golf day out or anything more ambitious like organising a tournament!

Our group enjoyed an Awayday (afternoon round) at Sudbury GC. Organisation from the club was excellent. A friendly reception from the pro shop and catering/bar staff. Parking was a challenge though tokens are available for on street parking. We enjoyed the variety of holes and the challenge of the classic Harry Colt greens. This is a hilly course and quite a physical challenge for those used to flat parkland golf. Certainly worth the effort. Drinks on the terrace after the round were a real pleasure with great views over the course and NW London.

Quite a hilly course, built on the side of the slopes from the clubhouse down to the canal. View from the clubhouse is therefore quite spectacular. I play this course every year about end of June/early July, and it is always in very good condition, although the recent hot weather and no rain has left most course looking rather brown, and Sudbury is no exception. Despite that, the tees and greens benefit from sprinklers, so only the fairways are very dry. Bunkers seemed to be good (avoided them all except one). Some quite tricky greens about. There has been one big change since I played in 2017 - the course is now played 'the other way round' - i.e. the first hole is the old 10th, which has been made a par 5 (it was 460 yard par 4, stroke 1, so a necessary change as it is now the first hole). SSS from the yellow tees is 70, which is level par, so still a good test, especially it it's windy as it was when we played. Food and drink is decently priced bearing in mind how close the course is to central London, and everyone seemed quite friendly, although the fact that our 'society organiser' is a recent Past Captain probably helps. Great fun, course in great condition.

I'd struggle to find fault with anything about Sudbury. Played it for the first time in ten years today. Public day so we started off the 10th. £25 and the Harry Colt designed course was in terrific condition. I honestly couldn't fault it. Wish I could say the same for my golf game. You need to putt well to score her. Be warned, there's a couple of hills for those who don't like that sort of thing.

This is a course I always enjoy playing. The greens are always fast and in great condition. Only one par 5 on the course, because the others on the original design were considered too short some years ago. These are now long par 4's - the 10th is SI 1 - 460 yards invariably into wind, and the 17th is not much shorter and all uphill.

Please pause by the bench at the first tee - it's dedicated to a good friend of mine (David Ashton) who sadly died in 2005, who was Captain at Sudbury in 1993.

Think we picked a bad day with the amount of leaf fall just off the fairway & greens both of which played well. All the recent rain left only the slightest of those signs this early in the winter but the leaves were a killer & lost 5 balls adjacent to fairways & once just off the apron. Sure it will be fine next week as there were many groundskeepers in evidence.
