Hadn't played here for a few years. Was nice to come back. Course was in better condition than I remembered it and played well. Greens and aprons were super firm so needed to land most shots short. Rolled well once on them though. Well looked after by the club before the round via lunch. Excellent curry after in the place immidiately next door. Will head back sooner rather than later to play again.

A Gem in the countryside....

As part of our Nomadic Tuesday courses, five of us set out on two tees on a (very) changeable weather-wise. This is about the third time I have played the Abbotts course, so was looking forward to it. A Covid restricted clubhouse but warm welcome as always, excellent Bacon rolls, and then off we went. As we had some rain course softened up but 20mph winds hampered our progress. The course layout is challenging, long (around 6000 yards) but very playable. Greens were good with only minor cuts and abrasions so this was pleasing. After the round an outside beer/coffee thankfully it was dry/warm finish to the round before bibilical thunderstorm hit after we packed the cars to go home. We will be back its a lovely club and if I lived more local would look to be a member...

Rough is too long!

So I'm not a professional golfer. I can't hit a dead straight shot every time. My most common shot is a slice when I take my drive. I would take my shot. Hit the ball 220 yards, clearly watch it bounce on the fairway then maybe end up 1 yard into the "short" rough on the edge of the fairway and when I go to find my ball it's impossible. Ended up taking about 10 drop shots from missing balls. And the ones I did find, the rough was too thick to play out of. The greens had sand patches all over them. The bunkers had grass growing in them and not a single rake in sight. The conditions were terrible.

Bit wet!

This is a really good course when it's dry. The new ground work has really bedded in well but it's was boarderline unplayable yesterday and probably should have been closed. It was so wet and boggy your ball just plugged after every shot. It was too wet to cut the grass making the fairways look like the second cut rough which didn't help. Greens played quite well though all be it slow due to the wet conditions.
