The Home of Golf
I suspect most golfers would like to play the Old Course at St Andrew at least once in their lives. We got a tee time after three attempts in the Ballot, and were really lucky with the weather - a few light showers, but hardly any wind. You can't help but be impressed by the history of the course, and think about the famous names that have played before.Whilst the course was in great condition, and the greens were in fantastic shape, the only real disappointment of the day were the caddies. It must be hard to have lots of experienced caddies on hand, given the number of people who play the course every day, but we were pretty disappointed with the experience and advice of our caddies. My caddie was ok, but with him being a 12 handicapper who rarely played, I didn't feel he was experienced enough to advise me. My girlfriend's caddie made the cardinal sin of not really asking how she played - as a result he was always asking her to go for greens in regulation, and not really asking how she preferred to play. His efforts pretty much ruined the back nine for her, and put a real downer on a day that should have been one of the highlights of her golfing life.
In summary - course good, overall experience not so good!
